"Has potential, but just not there yet." (about: 2010)

I ran the half. No spectators, but that's not a high priority for me. Worst aspect is the lack of mile markers. There are miles marked on the bike path, but they don't match up to the race in any meaningful way. I didn't find the organizers to be helpful. Be aware of the point-to-point nature with transportation - they charge for shuttle. I'll do a better organized one than this in the future.

"Good race; rude cyclists" (about: 2010)

The race was well organized, there was great food at the end, and some very beautiful scenery. But some of the cyclists who were also on the trail were rude and we witnessed several near accidents due to the speed of some of the cyclists. We were also yelled at by a female cyclist; she was crazy and rude! She was on our side of the trail, perhaps just angry because we happened to be in her way; I'm not sure what her problem was, but who needs that?!

We also felt it would have been great to have had mile markers. We had a good idea because we had studied the course map prior to the race. But, especially towards the end it would have been helpful to have had that information.

One last thing: more water stations! The stations that were there were well stocked with lots of help, but more of them would have been great.

All in all, I may do this again; I'm just not sure at this time. The rude cyclists have left a bad impression on me.

"Great race for a BQ qualifier!" (about: 2010)

I have run this race both years. For some reason it just likes to get hot race weekend. Nice course; aid stations were well stocked. The food at the finish line was top-notch: TriTip, beans, salad, and corn bread. The race was a lot bigger this year and Robert and Linda did another great job. I will be back next year, God willing!

"Quiet, scenic course. Great small marathon." (about: 2009)

This marathon was small, scenic and well-run. The volunteers were incredible, and aid stations very well-stocked and reasonably spaced. This year the race weekend weather was extra hot, but you can get that in Sacramento in April. The temperature the following weekend was in the low 70s.

The marathon course is a point-to-point along a bike path that runs beside the American River. In the first third of the course I did not go 1/2 mile without hearing wild turkeys. Wild flowers were in bloom along the trail as well. You can run on the asphalt trail or the crushed gravel beside the trail. You only cross a street once on the course. While this overall downhill course might help you to run a PR if the weather permits, it's also a great course to just enjoy running again.

This is not a marathon for those who like big crowds, but certainly a good one for those who enjoy a small, well-run marathon and/or a scenic course.

"Very nice inaugural event" (about: 2009)

Okay, so I ran the half. I have to give Robert and Linda props for pulling this event off. They did a wonderful job. The volunteers were wonderful, standing out in unseasonably hot weather. No aid station was ever out of anything. I would only say that they should space the aid stations out a little more evenly, which may be difficult because of the parkway. The ongoing battle between runners and cyclists continues; you must put up with cyclists who do not obey the 15 mph speed limit. It's Sacramento on a Sunday, not the Tour de France. No one can control the heat. Thanks for a great event, and for taking our bags when there was no official bag check. I'll be back next year.

"Hot! Hot! Hot!!!!!!!!" (about: 2009)

Good course along the bike trail. The hot weather sure hurt; it hit mid to upper 80's. It was very well organized for first-time marathon. Aid stations were very well stocked; they needed more with heat, but no one knew what to expect. The BBQ afterward was super - great job, Linda and crew. Well done, Robert (RD).
