The course is okay. A little boring with the multiple loops. Organization was solid. The medal is cool. Worst fitness fair I have ever seen. If you live in the area, it is fine, but certainly not a destination race.

Very laid back event that is well organized. Parking is easy and free. With 20 minutes before the horn sounds, you can get right up to the start line, so no worries about congestion. It's scenic along the lake and goes through some older, charming neighborhoods. The mile or two on the gravel roads was a surprise, but if you like trail running, this is a plus. Ample aid stations well stocked with water and Gatorade, and great volunteers including the US Navy directing the way. Most of the crowd support was in the town with sparse support outside of some residential homes. The second half got warmer, and in certain parts of the course the headwinds were gusty up to mile 19-20 (then you did a loop and rode them home, which was nice).

It's for sure a PR marathon course as it's flat like a pancake and one for those looking to qualify for Boston (has a small hill or two and a few potholes to dodge). It looked like a great party at the end, as the half marathoners were downing the beers and brats. A little broken myself, so I just stuck to the well stocked fruit and water. The pre-run in early April was great before the marathon and was hosted by the Kenosha Running Club. Jonathain Cain was there to show you the course ahead of the race. Well done, and my continued well wishes as you build this into a bigger event. Most of the Cheeseheads were from Ohio, which was funny! Wisconsin, you've got to show them up in 2011.

"Great race with a few hills to keep it honest." (about: 2010)

The course is fun. It makes it easy for spectators to follow their runners. Organization seemed fine. Needed more water/Gatorade stops due to the weather all of a sudden warming up. Food line was too long, maybe due to so many last-minute sign ups? Need to have the roads swept - especially by the lake - the night before or morning of. Fun, beautiful experience.

"More Gatorade needed for a warm day" (about: 2010)

The beginning of the course was a bit confusing and very congested (a couple of loops in and around Kenosha before the marathoners went on their out-and=back trek at mile 12) but well directed so it worked out ok. Not sure why the previous commenter would have taken the turn for the half if they were doing the full (?).

The last 2 water stops of the half marathon (miles 10 and 12 of both races) had no Gatorade, and since I was running the marathon I was confident that I would get some at the 14-mile water stop and beyond (and I did); however, I had gone without since mile 8 (6 miles without) - not good for a very warm and humid day. At the mile 14 water stop I suggested to the person there (who said she was able to contact the RD's) that there may be none for us marathoners when we returned back toward the start area (the end of the race for us). She was very helpful and said she would try to take care of it. However, there was none at the end of the marathon, as I suspected.

It was a tough day for a marathon - warm and humid. More Gatorade was needed. It is difficult to predict the weather, but if there is any question about what it might be, more would be better.

Good organization, so-so swag (a short-sleeve tech shirt), no expo (ok with me), and ok post-race food (yummy brat!).

Good job for year #2.

I enjoyed this race. I would like to see the marathon and half marathon start at different times. It was hard to pace when you didn't know which race people were running. I really like that we were able to use headphones. I'm a runner that is not able to run without them.

"Fix the pavement" (about: 2010)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Wisconsin Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I hurt my foot and had a bad day, but overall enjoyed the experience. This could be an outstanding race with a few tweaks.

Positives:
+The first half of the course, with views of Lake Michigan almost all of the time, is beautiful
+Well organized
+Nice medal!
+Short-sleeve tech shirt
+Navy volunteers are great
+All of the volunteers are great

Negatives:
-Much of the pavement through the park in the first half is dangerous, rutted, uneven, patched, pot-holed, or just bad
-The second half of the course is boring and seemed to go on forever
-There are a few miles of crushed gravel in the second half; is this a trail marathon?

Overall, this could be a great race if they fixed the bad road surface and ran it as a double loop of the first half of the course.

I enjoyed the race. Start line was congested since I did not get toward the front. Plenty of room to pass for the most part. Please do not ban iPods.

I did the half marathon. I wish results were posted quicker.

Good race, with good spectators and support. Unable to predict warm weather, the water stations were too far apart on the back half of the marathon. I was struggling and looking for water. I understand getting people to man the aid stations is a task. Next year maybe a couple of more aid stations for the marathoners would be in the cards.
Overall, great job, Wisconsin!

"Lots of water but slim on the Gatorade" (about: 2010)

The race was well organized. The course was congested until the 1/2 marathoners split off (at about 11 miles?). Many of those running the 1/2 and listening to headphones couldn't hear runners passing on one side or the other and would step in front of them. I'd like to see headphones banned. The problem wasn't nearly as bad after the 1/2ers split off. It was warm and humid. It seemed like most of the aid stations only had water and a few had Gatorade. Lots of crowd support from the U.S. Navy. The only beverages after the race were water and beer. I'd prefer a sports drink.

Really enjoyed the race. This was my first marathon so I have no other benchmark. I liked that it was intimate without massive crowds because, as a first-timer, it was not intimidating. Great organization, easy parking, a beautiful (and flat) course along the lakefront, and I loved how the US Navy men and women were at every turn for encouragement. Will definitely do it again.
