The circle is complete..my marathon career began with LWTM and ends with LWTM. This was my only full marathon after a tendon transfer surgery in 2011 in my foot. It was uncertain if I would be able to run another full marathon. I did it...barely. Now wisdom says to let it go. They say you always have a soft spot for your first marathon, but it's not just because it was the first...it's because of the energy, volunteers, spectators, pacers, runners, camaraderie during the race, and beauty of the LWTM trail. Not to mention it's flat, fast, and a great Boston qualifier! 'Four towns, two feet, one day' I like to say about this race, it makes you seem like you're amazing! :) I will ALWAYS recommend this race to anyone, especially as a first time marathon. I won't be on the course anymore as a runner, but I will definitely be there as a volunteer in the years to come! See you out there!!!

"Fast, flat, fun, great spring tune-up or BQ" (about: 2014)

Very well organized and executed race. The volunteers were very helpful and gracious, I couldn't thank them enough at each aid station or the finish. This race is very small and intimate, everyone either knows each other or wants to get to know you. Yes, it's a flat paved 10 ft. wide trail, but with only 325-350 runners I never felt boxed in or crowded. The aid stations are not as frequent as some big marathons, usually 2-2.5 miles apart, so with that in mind bring a hydration belt if you need it. But they were great aid stations with all the essentials and then some, including salty snacks like pretzels and chips, my favorite! The finish line area was fantastic, tons of great food and drink, lots of options depending on how well you feel after a race. Everything from pizza to bagels, water to Gatorade to Cokes and Sprites. And chocolate milk, always a bonus. Great volunteers at the finish too, took the time to help, make sure you were doing ok, then gave you directions to the food, massage tent or finishers shirts. PS - this review would have been great even if I didn't PR by 12 minutes!

The Wobegone Marathon is such a fun experience! This is my second time running it and I plan on coming back again! It is well run, Sharon makes everyone feel special! the course is beautiful and fast, and although the crowds are small, they make up for it with their spirit!!!

"great race" (about: 2014)

This is a very well organized small race. Course is flat and has few turns. Very friendly and helpful volunteers. This race is mainly woods/country setting. If you need crowds and massive amounts of people to push you through, this might not be the race for you. Great set up. I would highly recommend this one.

This race is put on by the running club I belong to. They are very friendly and do a fabulous job organizing and executing this race. The volunteers are outstanding, friendly and energetic. The course is picturesque and flat. Very good place to PR. Not your 'big city' marathon and I liked that compared to my previous marathon which fit that category.

Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon is a must for any marathoner because it's flat, fast and cool because of the time of year. This is also one of the best organized marathons I have ever ran. It's small in size and has as many volunteers as any other marathon. They really roll out all the stops for this one. The finishing medal is big and beautiful. If you want to qualify for Boston, this is the one to do. I have ran it 3 times and you can bet I'll take one of the spots again next year. Great job to all involved in organizing this event.

"This race is about the runners, not about profit." (about: 2013)

I've biked the Wobegon Trail many times and thought, 'this is so boring, I don't know how anyone could ever run a marathon on it', but surprisingly I actually enjoyed the serenity of the trail. This was my first Marathon, so I can't compare it to any others. As a FIRST time Marathoner, you are given a ROSE when you finish. :-) This year there were just over 300 finishers, and 150 volunteers, as a 5+ hour finisher, I saw more volunteers than runners, and almost no spectators. The 'bike Support' kept me company off and on and even brought me water. Most of the volunteers are local runners, who take great care of you. The race director is very organized and keeps the cost low. She doesn't take a pay check from the race and 'breaks even' on race income/expenses. This race is organized and put on by runners and is for the runner, not for profit. There are amazing cookies at the finish, so make sure you find them! Great swag: nice long sleeve shirt, mesh bag, high quality medal (next year 2014, the medal will have Lady Slippers on it, its BEAUTIFUL and I might do the race again, to have one of my own).

For those who enjoy a small but well-organized race, this is definately the one for you! Low entry fee but runners are treated amazingly well! From the gym and short bathroom lines at the start, to the scenic flat course, with wonderful volunteers at all the water stops! If you need the motivation of lots of spectators, this is not the race for you. But if you want a flat, fast, beautiful course, this needs to be on your must-do list!!

Despite the wind gusts I loved this course! It is a tar trail except for the first mile. The rural setting is peaceful and I especially enjoyed the cute baby lambs. If you need thousands of runners and spectators to keep you motivated this is not the course for you. I qualified for Boston and hope to go back to Lake Wobegone where all the runners are good looking and faster than average!

"Fantastic course & organization" (about: 2013)

This is a beautiful and peaceful run for those who appreciate a chance to test themselves on a fast course where you are able to run your on pace or push yourself against some very serious MN club competition. The club organization of the race was superb with all the most important elements covered - i.e. accurate mile markers, access to large gym immediately before start, bag drop, plenty of food and hot fluid at finish. Fans at the many trail intersections were wonderful with signs, cowbells, and loud/knowledgable shouts for every competitor. The low entry fee is a tremendous bargain for quality of volunteers/stations, beautiful medal and soft tech t-shirt for finishers only.
