COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 I hope that Bass Pro continues its sponsorship of this event in the future. They had a few snags and newbie issues this first year, but I thought the marathon was very well done. The aid stations and volunteers did a great job. I was surprised at how many volunteers they had at every intersection. I had no problem registering for the race or with T-shirts. The expo was a little disappointing but they have something to build on. A special thanks to the service men and women "guarding" us on the last mile. I also really enjoyed the finish line indoors at Bass Pro. I've run some big marathons, like Chicago, and smaller ones as well, and I thought this was a very nice race - although they got really lucky with the nice weather this late in the year. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 I live here in Springfield, so I was very familiar with the course going in. I love running these trails and have done so many times. I thought it was great to see them so integrated into the course. It gave it a much different feel than the "big city" marathons you normally see. For the race only being in its second year, it was well organized. A couple complaints... 1. There was a large sign between mile marker 5 and 6 that said "6.2." I think it meant 6.2 miles to go, but I'm not sure. Confusing. 2. The awards ceremony was very poorly done. The MC didn't seem to know what was going on and it took a lot longer to get the awards out than it should have. Like I said, all in all, it was done really well. | |

"Great For First-Timers!" (about: 2007)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 It was a beautiful course that definitely gave you a great tour of the city. And I agree with the shirt problem. It was my friend's first half-marathon, and all they had were those large sizes. But what gets me is that when planning for this event, you should probably anticipate purchasing more medium/smalls than the larger sizes. Overall I can't wait to run this next year! | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Great course - trees in full color on beautiful trails and nice neighborhoods. It seemed like the whole city was there to support the marathon: police, medical, aid stations, bands and what had to be over a hundred volunteers. Perfect weather. A few more porta-potties would help and if we could keep the bikes off the trails for one morning a year? But this did not distract from a fantastic venue. | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 2 They clearly didn't plan ahead for not only the number of participants in the half-marathon, but the runners' SIZE. They ran out of all shirts but men's L and XL. I guess it didn't matter if you registered back in August and September like we did! What a letdown for my friend's first half. No shirt to show off her great accomplishment.... | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 4 I was a participant in the half marathon and am extremely upset and disappointed in regards to the t-shirts. A friend and I both registered in early September and when we arrived on Sat. to pick up our packets we were informed they were out of medium and small t-shirts for the half marathon runners. Why was I asked to specify my shirt size upon registration if I wasn't going to receive a t-shirt. In every other race I've run, the shirts were included in the packet so that those that registered early were guaranteed a shirt. We worked very hard for this race and part of the reward is getting to wear your race shirt. I was also upset to hear we would not even be given a voucher or the option to give our name so that we would receive a shirt later. I'm sure there are many other runners that were displeased with this issue as well. I would love run this race again; however, I hope the packets will be put together differently next year. Did anyone else run into this problem? Thank you. | |

"Strange age group classifications" (about: 2007)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Someone at Bass Pro that was a runner needed to review the age groups that were set up for the races Bass Pro is putting on. They are not at all like any races I've ever seen put on anywhere. In face, the age groupings are so strange, they look like typos. If Bass Pro wants this to be a big event in the future, they need to proper age group classifications. |
