"A good race" (about: 2005)

Enjoyed the race, though the docks area was a bit quiet and boring, particularly 2nd time round when you needed support. Great organisation and fantastic atmosphere in the city centre. Two bad points - no direction after finish as to where to get post race stuff, some signs or arrows would have done. Also, that evening I walked in the park and found an area where there were hundreds of drinks bags not collected strewn along the side of the path which didn't look good.

This was my first marathon and I can say this was a brilliant day out for me and my family. I was impressed with the layout of the course and the finish inside the Millennium Stadium truly, never a forgotten moment. Thanks to everyone involved in making it a great day to remember. Many thanks, Mark Sloan.

"WHERE IS EVERYBODY?" (about: 2005)

As there were far more competitors, especially locals, it appeared that all the emphasis was put on the half-marathon event. Those of us doing two circuits were subjected to streets full of people getting in our way for the small section of civilization that we ran through and the hard-working marshals just couldn't control the crossing traffic before Cathedral Road. Large parts of the course, in the parks and at the bottom of Cardiff Bay, were subjected to cheats merely turning around and coming up the other way unnoticed. Such a beautiful city deserves a better marathon than this. Good, flat course for a personal best and a beautiful yet empty stadium for the finale. Directions were needed for the location of medals and placement of time-chips.

Nice route, quite flat. My first one, but good for a PB if you can negotiate the slower runners on the cramped paths.

"Great course letdown by poor finish organization" (about: 2005)

Great course, slightly narrow in places, especially for faster runners trying to negotiate the slower half-marathon entrants. Badly let down by the finish and lack of atmosphere in the stadium. Difficult for spectators to meet competitors; no direction as to prize giving or results; no race commentary. Not doing itself justice as the centenary marathon for the capital city.

First Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

I have never run this distance before (half marathon), but have been training since February so I felt well prepared, despite some unconnected injuries along the way. It was a great course (apart from the cobbled bits) and the support from total strangers when I was flagging toward the end was a real motivator. I even had the odd conversation with others runners along the route and felt inspired by other runners who were obviously struggling, but determined to keep going. I started off with a group of friends (the Saturday Sisters of Swansea), but couldn't keep up with them for long (at all really). I ran for a while with one of the girls (Sian) , but eventually ended up alone (sniff). This didn't deter me much, and once I got into my rhythm, I was well away. I thoroughly enjoyed the day, the run, the fatigue in my legs, everything. I am proud of all The Saturday Sisters; we all started off doing little 3-milers, and gradually built up to the Half.

See you all next year.

"Great day, scenic course, shame about the finish" (about: 2005)

The half-marathon start had a fantastic atmosphere. The route was great because it was flat and very picturesque. Running round the park and through the castle was fantastic. The marshals and the supporters were fantastic. But what a shame about the finishing. Couldn't move from the finish line for ages. And then more queueing for the medal, then I had to fight my way to get outside and watch the marathon runners come in. Shame you couldn't have got your medal at the finish. But I did enjoy the day.

"good but needs improvement" (about: 2005)

The paths did get cramped between runners at times. More directions at the end in regards to where to run in the stadium. Good atmosphere. Will be running next year.

"Late Results!" (about: 2005)

Given that timings were obtained using an automated procedure, you might think that the results would be online now. The course was good however, and much enjoyed. Shame that you can't get your results though - Cardiff should look to other cities for organization.

"Not too keen on the new route." (about: 2005)

The route wasn't as good as last year. Too much back and forth through the park. Running through the streets was lots more fun. The queuing for the medals at the end was ridiculous. But the marshals and the supporters were brilliant. My apologies to the marshals on the finish for crossing the line after pulling out of the full and being the first marathon runner over the finish. Oooops, sorry. Preferred the baggage system last year too.
