B. from Phoenix, AZ (11/22/2014) "Not a good race for Full Marathon" (about: 2014) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 This race caters to the 1/2 marathon and the full marathoners are just kind of thrown in there. PROS - -Expo - good - easy in / out -Fremont St. - that was great for the marathoners -Finish Line - I liked the long run-out to prevent runners from bunching up right at the finish. CONS -Corral start is a failure - I was in corral 20 with an estimated marathon time of 4:15. I spent the next 9 miles dodging hundreds of walkers from corral 46, 47 etc. also very bad idea to start marathon and 1/2s together. Different mind set, different pace profiles. Totally disrupted by marathon game plan. -The outer part of the marathon beyond Fremont street was a totally boring, non-descript grind. Nothing to look at just run from one set of flashing lights to the next. OVERALL - If you are a marathoner and expect a serious race - forget it and find something else. If you don't have any expectations and are looking for a bit of fun then this may be the race for you.

It is a 4:30 pm start. Great, can sleep in watch some NFL and eat normal. The down side is yea it is kinda dark in some stretches. How do you reel in that runner down the block when you cant see em. Yea way too many walkers non runners and spectaters in early corrals. Correctable. Stuff like cool night air dark areas do not blame organization. I got what i want Vegas a different marathon than typical. Oh yeah, markers after 20 miles easy to miss (no clock) correct that. Maybe have inside finishing area.

(about: 2014) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I ran the marathon in 2014. This was my 13th marathon but my first R&R event. I enjoyed it and I recommend it, BUT . . . just know what you're getting yourself into. The target customer for this type of event is the 1st-timer or 'destination' half marathoner. If you're serious about your marathons this one isn't for you. But if you want a fun, unique experience it fits the bill nicely. A few observations: Pros: . Organization is top-notch. Competitor has this all down to an art. . Running on the strip is cool. Fremont Street (which you run twice) is worth the price of admission alone. . Pretty flat course. The only hill you can see is when you go under a highway at around mile 10. There are some long uphill stretches in the back half but they're subtle. . Nice medal. The T-shirt wasn't spectacular by any means, but it'll make a good running shirt. . Separate finishing lanes for marathoners and half-marathoners. I understand this was a problem in the past, but they seem to have corrected it nicely. Cons: . My god, the starting corrals were a joke. Everyone's bib and corral placement was based on their estimated finishing time. The corrals (48 of them) were started seprately, about 1-2 minutes apart. It all sounds good in theory, but in order for it to work people have to be honest about their projected finishing time and then line up in the corral to which they are assigned. Neither of those things happened. Just know that, regardless of what corral you are assigned to, you will be surrounded by people with bib numbers much higher than yours and who fully intend to walk the entire race. Just be prepared to spend the first 9 miles wading and weaving through a motley horde of humanity. . Once you leave Fremont St at around mile 10 you will embark on a long, lonely, seemingly endless out-and-back in the middle of freaking nowhere. Not only are there no people, I don't even think there are any building on these streets. You will not reenter a civilized area again until around mile 22. . Don't expect to fill up on the food in the finishing area. I mean, it was freezing cold . . . how could all the bananas be warm and mushy? Overall: Glad I did it, won't do it again.

Course was great. Not impressed with walkers in the earlier start corals. I was in corral 24 and walkers were just in the way. The shirt could have been better, marathon words too small and so looks like a $5 gift shop shirt. Medals were beautiful. Running strip was amazing. Too many snacks at the start festival when you don't want food and not enough stuff at the end when you need it. No bagels and mushy bananas. $40 extra to pick up same day was ridiculous on top of an already steep registration fee. I flew in Sunday AM as so I could get the job done and then party. Not come in on Friday and have to bunker down for an event.

L. from Oregon (11/18/2014) "Running the Strip and Fremont was great" (about: 2014) 3 previous marathons \| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 It was a great experience. A night run, the course was mostly flat (slight uphill most of the first 13), crowds were good on the out on Strip and Fremont (Mi 1-10), and okay on the back (Mi 22-26). Not much crowd support, however, and virtually nobody in the dead zone (Mi 10-22). Cold weather this year. Macklemore threw a great pre-run concert.

I ran with map my run on my i-phone and my Nike GPS watch and both registered 13.28 and 13.29 respectively. I was reading other past comments and saw similar comments to bad mile markings?

Y. from South Carolina (11/17/2014) "Marathon was not organized well" (about: 2014) 6-10 previous marathons \| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 3 I ran the Las Vegas Marathon 2014. There were no mile markers after 20 miles. There were 2 30 mile markers. We ran out into the boon docks which were very poorly lit. No food at the end for all runners. Poor security taken and hardly any rock and roll music. The strip was cool to run on and Freemont street was a good wake up but overall way too expensive for what you get.
B. V. from Fort Collins, CO (2/11/2014) "Too expensive for what you get" (about: 2013) 11-50 previous marathons COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 I actually only ran the half this year. Pros: The novelty of running down the strip with it all lit up is pretty cool. The finisher's medals are very nice. The age group awards are unique and well done. Accurate course and mile marks in the half. Cons: Way too expensive. I was expecting more food at the finish. Few spectators, especially later in the race. For a race that doesn't start until 4:30 in the afternoon, I would expect to be allowed to pick up my race packet in the morning. My flight didn't arrive until Saturday night, after the expo closed, so I was forced to pay an additional $40 to pick up my packet on Sunday. I won an age group award that the web site stated would be mailed out in 6-8 weeks. After 8 weeks I email inquiring about the status. I was told that they were behind due to the holidays, but would be sending the rest out that week or the next. Another 3 weeks later, still no award so I contacted them again. They said they would be sent out that week. A week later received my award in the mail unfortunately it was broke. I was able to repair it with some glue.

B. from Pacific Northwest (2/2/2014) "Overpriced Race" (about: 2013) 50+ previous marathons \| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 This event caters to the half marathon runner and not to the full marathon runner. Many markers between miles 13 and 23 were off the mark, some significantly. Course support for what you pay is lacking. Come on guys hire some local kids and pay them to man the stations. The last 1.5 miles found myself weaving in and out and bumping into half marathoners sometimes walking four abreast and not staying to the left where they had their own lane. Fremont street was cool and they do a good job on most areas of organization but not at the prices they charge. Most of the hype is around it being Vegas and running on the strip (for a few miles). Save yourself some bucks and run one of the the other well organized races at less cost.

G. from Cottonwood Heights, UT (11/26/2013) "Great job this year" (about: 2013) 11-50 previous marathons \| 4-5 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathons COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Competitor finally has nailed down the organization this year. After the 'bad' year of 2011, I felt this year largely went off without a hitch. I have done this race 4 other times and I really enjoyed my experience from beginning to end. The shirt was good while I do agree I would love to see them do a half marathon shirt and a marathon shirt. The medal resembles those given out in years past. It does glow in the dark though, which makes it unique. The course is one-of-a-kind in the fact that you do run on the Strip. Running along Freemont Street, which is reserved for the full marathoners, with the roaring crowds is nothing short of a religious experience. However, running in North Las Vegas is sort of lonely and there wasn't much in terms of crowds or bands out there. Also, on the way back from Freemont street back to the Strip it gets extremely desolate and dark. The starting corrals were mismanaged as I saw plenty of people who were clearly in the wrong corrals, but it wasn't as bad as in years past and I was able to run my pace within a mile or two. Some of the middle mile markers seemed to be off but overall the course was accurate. Also the water / nutrition support was spot on, although a few more spots with Gatorade rather than just water would've been welcomed. Also exiting the finishing corral was an effort in and of itself. It took me a good 20 minutes to get out and back to the Mirage where I was staying. Overall I really enjoyed my experience despite some of the minor annoyances that afflict most major marathons. I look forward to participating again in 2014.
