"Vast improvement on last year" (about: 2007)

6-10 previous marathons | 2 Edinburgh Marathons
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 2

After running this marathon in 2006, the only reason I ran again was due to the change in course. It was flatter and that meant I was hopeful of achieving a PB. The organization for 2006 was very poor; thankfully things have improved greatly this year with significantly more marshals and helpers at drinks points. The crowd support was very poor, compared to other marathons, although the poor weather would not have helped. If you're looking for a PB, this would be a good marathon to run; if you want crowd support to help you along, Dublin would be a better option.

"My first - but God willing, not my last" (about: 2007)

This was my first marathon and it was fantastic all the way through. The crowd helped us along at regular intervals, and the lady with the pot lid was brilliant!! I thought this might be my one and only, but now I hope it's the beginning of a future of long runs. The wall never appeared for me this time - not that I was looking for it. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Only stopped at the porta-potties at mile 7, and took a quick stretch at 22 miles. Other than that, I was fine. Great experience - it made all those a.m. runs in the dark and in the rain so worth it. Thank you to all the helpers and runners who jollied each other along. Weather was windy but suited most of us fine. Thanks again - till next year!!!!

"overall - very enjoyable" (about: 2006)

My first full marathon so not much to compare it to. But for what it is worth I found the whole Edinburgh experience very enjoyable. I enjoyed the course. The last 3 miles were particularly tough with the hills (more of shuffle home than a run for me). The start was great in Edinburgh's main street, as was the subsequent journey through the city. My biggest problem with the course was the mile markers. A few seemed to be way off - and I mean like two-to-three-minute differences between some splits (a 4-minute miler I am not). Seems like something organizers should be able to get right. If I lived in the UK I would do it again. They should have a half marathon as well though.

"A bit humid, but a great marathon experience" (about: 2006)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Edinburgh Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 4

This was my 4th marathon and I was surprised that I made a personal best, considering the hills and the heat. After the hills in the beginning I welcomed the flat sections out toward Leith only to find a couple of long hills towards the end. All in all, it was a great marathon (could've used a few more toilets at the beginning) and a great vacation. Scotland is beautiful and the people are very accommodating and nice. If you are considering running this marathon, you should definitely give it a go.

"Great Marathon" (about: 2006)

Only my second marathon and with an injury-blighted training program, I struggled with the heat and the hills. The last 3 miles were killers. Appeared well organized and the distribution of medals was seamless. Will be back next year having trained properly to do it justice. Nice scenic route.

"Could have been better!" (about: 2006)

This was my 2nd marathon (I did the London Marathon last year). Although I know that London is much bigger, the organization there was a lot better. The start was very poor - it was confusing were to start from. Princess Street was very quiet. Even the expo was very disappointing - not many stalls at all. Could have had more signs within the center; more people had to ask people such as myself who had already been, because there was no sign posted. Edinburgh is a lovely place and I am sure with time they will get it right.

"My hometown marathon and well worth doing" (about: 2006)

6-10 previous marathons | 3 Edinburgh Marathons

Bit too hot this year so no PB ran. Normally its cooler - last year we had rain. Organisation gets better every year and, because of the sunshine, the crowds were bigger than usual this year. Not sure if I would travel from outside the UK to do this one but if you are going to be in the UK at the time its a very worthwhile run and you will get to see a lot of Edinburgh

"Tough course, hot day, very hard last 3 miles" (about: 2006)

This was my second time running Edinburgh (last time was in '04). I enjoyed the first 10 miles through the city - those miles ticked away quickly, but from mile 10 on, the run was a boring, long, straight run along the seafront. I did not like the two turn-arounds at 12 and 22, where you came back on yourself. The uphill finish for the last 3 miles was very tough. I like the new start on Prince's St. I will run it again but hope the organizers will have another look at the course.

"FINISHING UPHILL HURTS" (about: 2006)

1 previous marathon | 1 Edinburgh Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This was my first marathon, so I was pleased it was well organized. Crowd was fantastic, supporting runners all the way around, especially as heat made it tough (though it did cloud over later). Not sure about finishing uphill though - that hurt!!!
