It was my first marathon and it was fantastic.

I did the half marathon this year and did it 2 years ago. On both occasions it has been excellent and I will be doing the full one next year. The spectators were amazing.

The route is known to be fairly tough, but as a mature runner, and reformed smoker and drinker, I just love it. The runners are friendly, the crowds are great, the weather is always boiling, and the race finish is very well attended with plenty of H2O and enthusiastic helpers from age 8 to 80.

Keep it going, all you sponsors and Wolverhampton. The race does provide a huge amount of help directly and indirectly to a lot of people. An enormous boost to encouraging fitness and good health. It also improves the local sales of bandages, plasters, knee supports, ankle braces and the odd physio session down at Tettenhall.

GREAT DAY OUT - THANKS AGAIN!

"Not too bad" (about: 2007)

I ran the half marathon last year and this year; last year I did 1:59 and this year 1:50, which I was pleased with. However, at one point I was running on the path and a motorcycle nearly knocked me over. A policeman on a push bike didn't seem to react to it. Also, last year there seemed to be a lot more sponges and the ambulance folks from St. John's were giving out Vaseline for sore parts of your body. I didn't feel as looked after this year.

What a wonderful event to take part in. The organizers, spectators and fellow runners all did their jobs well and with great enthusiasm. Special thanks go to those spectators who offered water and oranges along route. How kind. Can't wait for next year's.

"A killer, but hungry for more" (about: 2006)

This was my first marathon and what a killer hills - hills, hills and more hills. If it were run the other way around, it would be so much easier. I had trained for at least 6 months previous and completed a 20-miler beforehand. But you can't prepare yourself for the sheer pressure that racing in front of people for the first time does to you. Although all the spectators were fantastic, they added an extra 20 beats per minute to my heart rate. Can't wait for 2007. Going to beat 4 hours.

"Wolverhampton half marathon" (about: 2006)

First Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 5

I completed the half marathon in 2006. The support was excellent. It was a hot day and local people set up extra water stations, including people with sponges and buckets of water and one kind person who was willing to spray you with a sprinkler!

I was very unsure at the start. I couldn't find any signs in the park directing me to it, and I had to follow other runners. And although they ask what size t-shirt you'd like on the entry form, they just gave you any size as you crossed the finishing line. Not too sure about some points of the course when some cars were overtaking those that were going slowly - seemed to be no marshals on certain parts of the course. I would run again for charity though.

It was a very hot day, plenty of water stops and the supporters were fantastic. I did the half marathon. Well organised; I will do it again.

"Lack of water" (about: 2004)

6-10 previous marathons

I was horrified like many other runners behind me to get to the second drinks station on a very hot day to find there was no water available. I found a bottle on the floor further up the road which had only had a small amount taken from it. I did not feel able to drink from the bottle but poured it over my head to try to cool myself down. I was then stressed out wondering if there would be any water at the next drinks station, which thankfully there was.

"Very disappointing organization" (about: 2004)

I agree with Arthur, this race has such a lot of potential, shame about the drinks and marshalling. The medal was a cheap throw away as well.
