 "Well run marathon on a scenic course." (about: 2005)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 The marathon was well run. The expo was convieniently located with more exhibitors than I expected. We didn't go to the carbo meal but had dinner at Ciao, a small Italian restaurant near our hotel. The run was very pretty through town and along the river. There were some hills but they weren't as tough as I expected. The water stops had sports drinks, fruits and sometimes other snacks. Everyone was friendly and supportive. A very nice spectator let me use her sweatshirt to wipe sunblock and sweat out of my eyes. The finish line was well run and impressive for a marathon this size. I think this marathon is definitely a keeper! | |

 "Got More Than I Bargained For!!!" (about: 2005)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Ran the LR Marathon because I had heard so much about the medal, and it does not disappoint - it's huge. Not only is the medal worth the trip, the entire production is top-notch. The entire City of Little Rock embraces this event. The course is a challenge with the hills, the temperature did rise quickly, but the whole experience was a joy. I would highly recommend this race. Pros: very well organized; enthusiastic volunteers; every mile marked; nice finish in front of the Capitol; Hotel Horizon was very accommodating to the runners. Cons: 7:00 a.m. start as opposed to 8:00 a.m. start would be nice, especially on a warm day. Highly recommend perks tent. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Our 40th marathon, and the best support along the course of them all! A special thanks to the race officials, police, and volunteers. I am suggesting all marathoners do your race. As slower participants, the fruit and snacks are often all gone. But Little Rock had plenty at all the stops. These made a better race, and a wonderful day. Thanks Little Rock!!! | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 I had the day of a lifetime. It ended up being a little warmer than I had expected, but you couldn't have asked for a prettier day. The crowd was as you said they would be. Some young woman ran up the hill with me at mile marker 25. She was a spectator and she motivated me up the last hill, side by side. I will never get to thank her for her deed, but GOD knows who she is. The only two things I didn't like about the whole experience was the run by the park and river. IT was a very boring area to run and at the hardest mileage of the marathon. Second thing was the host hotel, The Peabody, had us checking out of the rooms at noon when I was still running. I thought the could have let us have a 2 o'clock check out, seeing as we were runners, but they wouldn't. They should not be a sponsor for the race next year for that reason. I had the time of my life. Will I do it next year? Who knows? But I can't seem to get the smile off my face right now! I was also impressed with the river walk. I hadn't been down there in awhile and it has really taken shape. You should be proud, LR. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 What a great race!!! The second half of the course is a killer, but I was still able to get a PR. Little Rock was a beautiful city and the hospitality was fantastic!!! Spend the extra $$ for the perks tent...it was AWESOME!! I wish they did it at all marathons. | |

"Great Race - Highly Recommend" (about: 2005)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I ran the half-marathon with my niece and nephew. The variety of hills and flats are great, as well as the support from spectators, seeing the town neighborhoods, new museum, crossing the bridge, governor's mansion, etc. The finish area had a supportive crowd, and the food and drink tent was well stocked and easy to get through. My sister from Hot Springs encouraged me to come to this race and I am glad I did. | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Normally, a marathon that is only three years old is still suffering growing pains and working out the kinks but the organizers at Little Rock obviously know what they are doing because this race was run as well as any big name established marathon. The course had several hills but I didn't find them too difficult. The spectators were fairly sparse overall but they were friendly and enthusiastic. The medal is huge! All-in-all a great event. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Since I trained pretty well, the rolling hills were manageable. The 'big hill' at Kavanaugh was not too steep. The organizers worked so hard and the weather was beautiful. Runners were well provided and cared for. Excellent publicity for Little Rock. I am happy to have seen the city and state for the first time. I will return and do the 26.2 again! | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 First, I'd like to address a few words to Gerald Staley of Little Rock who recently entered his comments about running the 2004 Marathon at 62 and will be doing '05 with his daughter, who got him off the couch in the first place. NOTHING could be better than that, Gerald! I ran my first mile at 60 and, like you, ran my first marathon at age 62 and at 73 I completed my 105th yesterday. It's a slippery slope, Gerald, but God knows, it's worth every minute and every mile! Now for the marathon, the course is tough but not a killer. The expo, packet pick-up, pasta party, shuttle buses and course aid stations were all just great. Virtually every aid station had water, sports drink and energy gels and many had orange slices and super enthusiastic volunteers calling out your name as you came through. It took me about ten miles to figure out that my name was printed on the bib... duh! Do Little Rock, folks, you will not regret it and yes, it is the biggest honkin' medal you'll ever see! |
