"Amazing logistical support" (about: 2011)

This was the best-executed marathon I have run ever. Walked right in for packet pickup. Corrals were enforced and well handled. City supports this marathon very well - enjoyed the course through all parts of the town. Plenty of runners, but never crowded.

"Great Race!" (about: 2011)

This was my first full marathon and I thought it was great! I didn't go to the expo so I can't comment on that, but the person who picked up my packet said it was a smooth process. Would have loved to check out the vendors. The start was easy and well-organized. The course was great! I had never been to downtown Little Rock - what a great tour! The hilly part from miles 13-16 was not as bad as I was expecting and was offset by running through a nice, interesting neighborhood. The only part I didn't care for was the out-and-back from mile 18-23. It was flat but pretty boring. There is a big hill at mile 25 but it wasn't very long and then it was flat/downhill to the finish. I didn't spend much time in the post-race area, so I can't comment on the availability of snacks/perks. I just grabbed a little snack and headed to the car. Overall, this was a really great race and I would love to do it again.

"Good, MId-Size Race" (about: 2011)

2 previous marathons | 1 Little Rock Marathon

Organization: Very well organized (5 stars). Finish line was outstanding with great refreshments and medical attention if needed.

Expo: Nice expo for this size.

Fans: They are in areas throughout the race but there will be areas where you are running without fan support.

Aid Stations: Every 2 miles at the start and then every mile towards the end. Really would have liked to have seen more medical staff on the route.

Course: Can only give 3 stars for the course. You run with half marathoners for the first 12 mlles. Then you run up a big hill on mile 15. At 18 you start a long run then turn at 21 and come back. The out-and-back is really not a good thing for a marathon. At mile 25 there is a monster hill that the organizers should be ashamed of for putting there. The course really looks like it was designed as a half marathon course and then they did the out-and-back to add the marathon.

Overall: Very cheap race with a very large finisher medal. If you are doing the 50 states, you can add this one for Arkansas. Not really a race you would want to do twice.

"Somewhere in the Middle" (about: 2011)

I notice a lot of people complaining about the lack of spectators and occasional solitude. This course is something between a small-town marathon and a big-city race. So if you like both, you'll enjoy this marathon. A few stretches of large crowds and a few miles where you're between a pretty little marsh and a championship golf course.

The medal is great, and the medal alone makes it worth making it down. It really is massive, and a great piece to show off to your friends.

Medical tent was well staffed as well and did a good job of taking care of runners after the race.

The one improvement I would like to see is better food after the race. Little Debbie Snack Cakes are good, but not something I want to eat after running 26 miles. Fruit was there, but more carbs like bagels would be great!

"great weekend" (about: 2011)

This is a well run event on a great course. Ok, there are a few hills, but I ran a personal best despite them, and I have run hillier courses. Plenty of water stops, helpful officials, and small but enthusiastic crowds (it was a chilly day). The post-race party was a blast, especially since it was held in the Clinton Presidential Library. Plenty of great (free) food, and the Greasy Greens band was a blast. i will definitely recommend this race to my running buddies.

"A great course!" (about: 2011)

A great combination of downtown, quiet residential areas, and city parks. I was never bored on this course. The weather was ideal this year, about 40-45 with no sun, but then again, I am from Michigan! Crowd support was a bit sparse, but those who turned up made up for it in enthusiasm. Plenty of water stations and a nice variety of food at the end. Finally, I can't forget to mention the huge medal, and this one spins! I would certainly run this again.

Being over 40 and unexperienced in any marathon/5K, this was an awesome experience. This was a small step toward my bucket list and I will absolutely participate again!

"People are too picky" (about: 2010)

People are too picky about races; it takes a lot to put a race together and I think the medal is cool. Stop your complaining and be happy for the gifts and abilities you have to run 26.2. The rest is just a bonus....

"Overall good experience dampened by finisher medal" (about: 2010)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Little Rock Marathon

Decent race - about what you would expect for a marathon of that size. I feel that the race organizers devote too much money to the finisher's medal, however. The size only makes it look gaudy. Put the money spent on the medals back into the race, or better yet, lower the entry fee. Overall experience was good, but I won't return as I'm not interested in paying extra to get a medal that I don't want.

"Do NOT run this marathon!!!" (about: 2010)

Flawless. Challenging. Perfect.

The city was a blast, the expo was the ideal size, transportation/parking was simple and inexpensive, the medals were just as advertised, the crowds were happy but on the sparse side, it was full of runners but definitely not crowded, the corral start was cool, the race directors were attentive and professional, the mayor and governor were excited to have you in their great city/state, the finish was fun, and the hills were unreal.

I will be back. What a great way to break up the monotony of winter training!
