"Great race!" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I did the 3-person relay and had a great time! I would like to run the entire thing one of these days!

I think they need to make this race a bit later in the year because it is still hot in September. If they don't do that, then they should start at LEAST an hour earlier. There is not much in the way of shade on the course (until the end perhaps) and with the altitude, the sun can take it's toll!

"Memorable marathon debut" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

Though only in its second year, the ADT marathon shows every sign of becoming a great race. The course is superb, a steady point-to-point drop losing over 1,000 feet. The first 17 miles traverse a well-groomed crushed gravel trail, 18-22 take you through CS on a bike path, and then the last 4 are back ona trail through a couple of lovely parks. Outstanding finish in the shaded pavillion area. This was my first marathon and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Fell a couple minutes short of my goal, mostly due to the heat at the end of the race. There are plenty of well-stocked aid stations staffed by enthusiastic support. The post-race atmosphere was excellent as well. All in all, this is a great marathon I whole-heartedly recommend to one and all.

"Watch for the 'rolling' hills!!!" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This was a great race! My performance was lackluster, but not because of any course or organizational problems. My observations:

1. The course has an overall downhill profile, but it is a rolling course. Miles 8-18 have several little 'dips' that should be considered when training and racing. The course has PR potential, but keep this in mind.

2. September is still warm in CO, and 2002 was no exception. The course has very little shade, so be prepared to run hot.

3. Great aid stations. Very frequent.

4. Organization was fantastic. Put on by runners for runners. Only thing missing was a pasta dinner, but this was minor. Great T-Shirt to boot!

5. Small but enthusiastic crowds. Keep in mind that 90% of the course is inaccessible by cars.

"Small but Well Done!" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I have only done one marathon, but I have done many shorter races. Considering this is a small scale race, the aid stations were great. There is nothing like running through the US Air Force Academy to make you feel proud to be an American.

"Excellent trail marathon" (about: 2002)

Well organized event, scenic course, had over 100 addtl entrants from year 1 to year 2, will probably continue to grow. Plenty of aid stations, however, some apparently did not have ice. Miles 18 - 22 (approx) are not on trails, the rest are on trails which are wide and smooth. Overall a fine event.....check it out.

"Great race. I'll definitely be back next year." (about: 2001)

Very scenic course. Great volunteers that truly inspire! Plenty of water, Gatorade and GU available when needed. Pizza, Grandma's cookies, Pop, etc. at the finish line - which is in a nice downtown park setting.

"Great marathon, first year was a real success." (about: 2001)

I really enjoyed the course. Best organization I have seen for the first year
of a marathon. I would highly recommend this marathon.

"It's small but awesome!" (about: 2001)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

Maybe I'm biased having lived the last 30-plus years in Colorado, but this was the best marathon of the six I've run (including Boston and Chicago). The race is primarily on well-groomed, leg- friendly trails, covers mostly rolling (and occasionally challenging) hills, and goes through some of the most spectacular scenery the state has to offer. For such a small race (306 entrants), there were lots of volunteers, plenty of water stations, and a fair number of vocal spectators. Plus, they give prize money to the top three finishers! I'd be surprised if this race isn't at least twice as big next year.
