 "Very Scenic and Well Run Race" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 Beautiful course, nice mix of fall foliage and views of the Long Island Sound. Overall pretty flat, but a few challenging hills mixed in. The race was very well run, with lots of water/Powerade stops along the way. I would recommend this race. | |

 "Very well organized...beautiful course" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 I loved this course. I came in after reading everyone's comments and thought I would just get through it... my first impression was how wonderfully organized the morning packet pick-up area was... then the wonderful facilities. It was nice to have a choice of Porta's & regular bathrooms. You can't say enough about the course, yes it's rolling, but that just gives your muscles a break changing the group used. The relay areas and all of the spectators really kept this middle-of-the-pack runner going and motivated. I will definitely run this again next year. | |

 "Deceptive advertisement of flat course" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I lost all respect for Amby Burfoot. He endorsed this course as flat and fast. It was not flat or fast, but all rolling hills. The race was great and did not need the false billing. I picked it as my Boston Qualifyer based on these representations. The race directors should have more integrity, as should Amby Burfoot, than to misrepresent a course. | |

"Great Race! with alot of variety!" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 This was my third overall marathon, first Mystic, and I wish I had driven the course first, so i could have prepared myself better for all of the turns. It was a great day, with all of the typical marathon conditions,not alot of spectators, but not every marathon is like Boston. Relay runners added to the fun, and the few hills at the end were not that bad. if they were at mile 13 you would never hear about them. amenities were good, pre and post race massages, free beer, music, food if you wanted it. The only downfall for me was the race memorabillia was not dated for the day, so if you want to get a hat with the year you ran on it, you have to do it yourself. Nice certificate comes a few weeks later to remind you of your accomplishment. Still undecided if I will run this particular race this year. But would definately reccomend it. very fun day. | |

"Fantastic course . . . worth the trip" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 4 This is equal to the prettiest I've ever run . . . but alas the Sugar River Trail Marathon in Wisconsin is no more. The course and the fans were great. 800 or so people is a good number too. p.s. If you want a totally flat course run Chicago or run on a track. | |

 "They lied. The course is not flat, it's very hilly" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 1 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 I was extremely disappointed and felt so bloody deceived that running this beautiful course was a nightmare. The rolling hills never stopped. Surely, that must be the last one, I kept saying because they said this course was one of the flattest. Compared to what? I should have asked myself before spending $500 on a weekend get away marathon. How could my fellow marathoners mislead me? I thought better of runners, now I know that people, even runners, will say anything to make more money. I read on their web site that this course is one of the flattest in the United States. Baloney. I e-mailed them after the run. I still have not received a response from the directors of the race. They must say that because they think those hills are not hills. They are, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. If I had known that I would not have signed up (and convinced my 1st time marathon brother-in-law to come with me) or I would have properly prepared myself by training for hills.(We both trained on the very flat south shore of Long Island.) This was my sixth marathon. | |

"The last marathon I would recommend" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 The course was advertized as 'flat,' but should be labeled 'some hills.' I found that having to contend with autos, bicyclists, rollerbladers and pedestrians annoying. I have never had this problem at any other marathon I have run. The post-race food tent was a bit of a disappointment. I have run marathons in four other venues and found all superior. I would not recommend this race. | |

"Beautiful course, but definitely not flat" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The website advertises this course as 'One of the country's flattest and most scenic oceanfront routes.' Well, it's half true. The scenery is gorgeous, but the 'rolling hills' are poorly timed toward the end of the race. The hills are not at all steep--just very long upgrades at the most inopportune time! The organization was great for a small race. The spectators were fabulous if relatively few in number--but their sincerity and enthusiasm more than compensated for their number. MysticPlaces Marathon was a great run. Had I been prepared for those hills, it would have been even better. | |

"Great experience from a First Timer!" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was my first Marathon. I couldn't have been happier with everything including the weather. From what I read about last year, any problems with traffic, congestion were taken care of. It does get lonely in later parts of the race- wish there were more spectators. But all the fans that were there were very supportive. Course is full of turns but always someone there to direct you. As far as hills, you can't have a 26 mile course that is totally flat! Sincere thanks to all who helped make this a memorable experience for me! |
