This was my first Boston Marathon, and it definitely won't be my last. BAA is a class organization all the way. For those of you trying to BQ, it's worth the effort. The support is top notch, the crowds are beyond incredible, and the course is challenging but fun. Can't wait for next year!

So this is my third Boston (2008, 2013, 2017) and by far my worst performance personally. The heat was a contributing factor. But the race is amazing, the crowd support is awesome, the course challenges the most experienced marathoners, and the whole weekend is a moving experience that embodies why we love to run. Only negative this time were some quirks of organization as far as line management to the expo, and my bus got lost going to the athletes village marathon morning. Overall a bucket list item for a reason. Do it if you can.

"Good race day experience" (about: 2017)

A lot of businesses were closed on Easter Sunday, so the day before the race was boring. I was surprised how many restaurants were closed the night before the marathon. A lot of runners were looking for a place to carbo load.

Day of the race was great in every way.

Boston #11 was way beyond my wildest dreams! I will never forget winning a coveted spot on a banner overlooking Boylston Street. Before, during, and after, this event just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter!

This is the 3rd time that I have run Boston and plan to keep coming back. I not only love the marathon itself, but I love the city. Boston is the most beautiful city in the world.
PROS: expo is AWESOME! everything is organized, race shirts are quality, easy to get to athlete's village, the atmosphere before the start is motivating, wave starts are good, the course is packed with spectators from start to finish, finish area is organized, after party is fun

CONS: really none, however if you don't train the legs on downhill, you will suffer the last few miles.

"What a fabulous event" (about: 2016)

This was my second BM, the first having been 2013. My goal this year was to soak up the whole experience. My marathon experience is limited (2 out of 4 are Boston) but I am blown away by the love this city has for its Marathon. I was wearing my jacket at Fenway the day before and many people (non-runners) went out of their way to wish me good luck. My Dad came with me for support and was equally blown away by the experience. He was watching right near the guy who collapsed and was carried across the line.

If you are fortunate to qualify, do it at least once. You'll never forget it.

"Memorable" (about: 2016)

I agree with all the enthusiastic comments below. My only CON is that I found the Finish line a bit disorganized. I could not find anybody to answer the question I had regarding an included event (where to return the tag of 'running test'), I almost missed the medal people, and I exited directly to the family meeting area without passing by the post-race package. Probably my mistakes but could be made fool-proof. Overall a great experience and highly recommended.

This is Boston!! The course killed me, finished slower than I wanted, but everything it's built up to. Boston and all the communities to Hopkinton treat you like rock stars. Awesome expo, post race event, etc. Fan support as some have said is a 10 out of 5. Plan to do at least 2 more, one where the course doesn't kick my rear end, and a 2nd to just take it all in and enjoy the spectators. If it's not on your bucket list it should be, even if it's to go and watch!!

Many have heaped praise on Boston but now I need to add my voice. Yesterday was my 7th Boston Marathon. After my first Boston I wrote that this is a massively over-rated event. The route of the course is dull, uninteresting and brutal. I still believe that but I really had missed the point. This is the best run, best organized, best supported and most respected event in distance running. Nothing is even in the same league and they keep upping their game. The BAA had every opportunity to pull back on the scope of the event after 2013. They chose to do the opposite. Invite +25K to dinner at City Hall for free? Sure. We can do that. Have a post-race party at Fenway, bring out the trophies and let everyone walk around the field. Sure. Bet the runners would enjoy that. Let's do it. And it can all be done with style because the city loves their marathon and will do anything they can to support it and the runners. 5 hours of handing out bananas or oranges as thousands pass your house. Sure. We can stock up at Costco. Every moment from arriving in Boston until driving away on Mass Pike, I felt honored to be a participant in their festival. I did have to battle up and down those hills and do it in mid-day heat followed by a chilling head wind but it was fine. I will remember the events of the day long after I forget my time. Thank you BAA. Thank you Boston. Your event just keeps getting better with age.

"A PERFECT 10" (about: 2014)

I had a chance to run in the 2013 race and was not able to cross the finish line due to the tragedy that took place. The class act by the Boston Marathon to allow those who wanted to run again to come back in 2014 was greatly appreciated...and I did come back.
What a tremendous experience to be able to be a part of the 2014 race and all the spirit and love that went with it.
THANKS BOSTON
