"Good Training Race Pre-Boston" (about: 2007)

COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 1

I decided to do this race at the last minute as a training run, but as most of us runners tend to do, I race just about every time I'm in a race. I had a major breakthrough at this marathon with a 8+-minute PR - 2:34! The course is rolling, but equal in ups and downs in my review. If the weather is clear, as it was for me, it's a great place to get in an excellent distance run. Organization was good, but I wish they had more (and more accurate) mile markers.

"A good winter option in the Northeast" (about: 2007)

First time running this race, and I was pleased with it. The weather and people were nice.

LIKES: The volunteers were wonderful and supportive. The race is simple, devoid of nonsense, and affordable. The use of the athletic facility before and after for warmth, restrooms and showers was very nice. The food and drinks offered hit the spot. The option to use this as a last-chance Boston qualifier is comforting.

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: Could benefit from having a porta-john somewhere along course. The 20-mile marker seemed to be off (late) by 1/4 mile.

Cold (19 F), sunny, minimal wind... all you can ask for in a winter marathon. I used it to train for Antarctica in 2008.

This is a winter marathon: cold, windy, and more cold. I use it to train for the Antactic Marathon (2008). No frills but good organizational support. I will run it in 2007. Thanks for running the race.

"Just add trash cans" (about: 2005)

Wonderfully run event. Thanks HMRRC and volunteers. Great job. Only two recommendations for improvement 1)add a trash can or two at the water stops. I felt bad throwing the cups into the wind and snow. 2) dial down the wind next year.

"Low-key home feeling run" (about: 2004)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Hudson Mohawk Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

We had great weather-lucky day in 40th and sunny (still pretty windy). It is a very small marathon with a feeling you're home for a run. Markers are every 5M. No extras as promised. By third loop course people know you by name, keep cheering you on. Very nice of them. 5 loops on roads (no traffic though) with many inclines - repeats are boring but again, they didn't advertise it as spectacular. Vey well organized, great food before and after and fantastic massage. Will always keep it in mind for a long run in a winter in Northeast. Thanks, guys, for making this marathon.

"Very friendly and well organized winter marathon" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 2

I particularly enjoyed this marathon as it was small, friendly and very well organised.

The course consisted of four loops within the University Campus with convenient markers every 5 miles. Plenty of fluids en-route and friendly support crew. Great post race facilities, hot soup, drinks, fruit, certificates and piping hot showers. The weather was extremely kind with a crisp and sunny February morning, what more could you ask for!

If I am in transit between St Lucia and UK the same time next year I will certainly make the effort to drive up the interstate to Albany to take part.

I was also particularly pleased with my personal best time, so of course it's my favourite marathon (so far) although the crowds are much bigger in the London Marathon!

Congratulations Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club, keep up the good work!

"A little gem of a marathon." (about: 2002)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 1

Course: 4 loops on a state office/college campus complex so there isn't much to look at but you do get to know the course and it is very flat; the only hills are mini on ramps. Very fast.

Organization: Tons of very friendly volunteers, and plenty of fluids. Low score for lack of mile markers; they only have them every 5 miles. The facility they stage the race out of is AMAZING, very large and relaxing. The showers are powerful and plenty of hot water.

Spectators: not really applicable if you ask me. There are less then 200 runners. You do the math.

"Well organized winter marathon in the northeast." (General Comments)

COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 2

Good organization. Reasonable four-loop course. About as good as you would expect for a marathon in the northeast in the wintertime.
