A Runner from 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands (4/22/2002)
"A fun run with thousands of supporters!" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

It was a fantastic and warm day in Holland. The course was crowded but run-able with thousands of runners and hundreds of thousands of supporters lining every step of the way. Every time I felt like I was going to hit the wall, a supporter would cheer me on. Wow. Many stood with drinks, fruit and garden hoses along the way. The view of the city while running over the Erasmus bridge took my breath away.
The Dutch volunteers along the way and at the end went above and beyond their call of duty. Helping all of us exhausted runners especially at the end. It was a spectacular day and a marathon I would recommend to anyone.

A Runner from Mexico (4/1/2002)
"'My best race'" (about: 2001)

An amazing environment! I always had the support of the public, traditional Dutch music in various points of the route and people's charm were my main (if not the only one, my girlfriend never could find me within the runners!) energy source...

A beautiful and progressive European city...

"Fast course, good crowd" (General Comments)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

I am a 41 year old who have run New York City (1998), Chicago (1998), Berlin (1999)and my personal record was in Rotterdam 2000, 3:29:05. A little crowded at the start, however that happens in all major marathons. It starts and ends in the same place which is an important commercial avenue like '5th avenue' in New York City. This is a fast, flat course, the only 'hill' is the Erasmusbrug bridge crossing, I would say a faster Marathon than Chicago and Berlin; Good crowd support throughout almost the entire course.
Good organization in general, the staff members were very warm and nice people, However be aware that the organizers don't have the Packet pick-up system for runners that is used in New York, Chicago or Berlin. Plenty of water and extran (a sports drink like gatorade) every 5 kilometers. Kilometers markers are posted every kilometer and a big one every 5 kilometers. I would recommend this marathon for someone who wants to run a personal record with good crowd support and not having to deal with so many runners (about 7,000 to 10,000 runners run this marathon).

"Great race - should increase max finishing time" (General Comments)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

After a couple of 6 hour finishes, I took part in this race to force myself below the 5 hour mark (the race finishes after 5 hours) and thanks to the fantastic support of the people at the end, did so with some time to spare. The city is beautiful and the organizers were very nice. Would definitely recommend it for people who do not have any 5 hr problems.

The Spectators were my life support.
They were great.
Well done.

A Runner from Khon Kaen, Thailand (2/20/2001)
"Not bad.... but not the best" (General Comments)

COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

I ran this race in 2000 expecting to finally run sub 2:20. I missed by 16minutes. Just had a really bad day. The crowds along the course and the organization is superb, but the course is NOT as fast as it used to be. There is a new bridge that you hit at 3km and again at 22km that WILL slow you down. The start area is very crowded and cramped. I advise against it except for highly experienced marathoners.

A Runner from Johannesburg, South Africa (7/25/2000)
"Superb course, fans and race experience." (about: 2000)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

A truely oustanding example of international race organisation, excellent course and an endless stream of cheering spectators. Every runner cannot help but feel like a champion on the day.

It is certainly a race I shall return to, without any doubt, many, many more times!

"a great experience" (about: 2000)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

The Rotterdam Marathon was my third attempt to break the 3 hours wall. In spite of the wind the conditions were very good. It was the first time I ran between thousands of marathoners and true hundreds of thousand spectators who cheered from the first km until the 42 km. I never had the feeling that I was running alone and do the fight all by myself. I appreciate the organisation, correct km indication, a very good supply system and a correct time registration. I recommend this marathon to all runners who love to run in a crowd, between a crowd and try to run a fast time.
