		Air Force Marathon officials spread word about upcoming event (Air Force Link) Officials from the U.S. Air Force Marathon office made a stop at the Pentagon to increase awareness for the 2008 Air Force Marathon held at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Race director, Molly Louden, believes 10,000 will register for the various running events. The events include a 26.2 mile marathon, a 13.1 mile half-marathon, a 10K individual and four-person team race and a family-friendly 5K the evening prior.

		Busy week ahead for race director of Blue Nose Marathon (Nove Scotia News) Joachim Stroink, race director of the Blue Nose Marathon, expects seven thousand participants to the 2008 event. The Halifax businessman has been the volunteer race director for five years in which he watched the event grow. 2008 marks his last year in the role as he wants to focus with the charity with the Learning Disabilities Association which have helped his two children who have dyslexia and attention deficit disorder.

		Cleveland could better promote its Rite Aid marathon (The Plain Dealer) The 2008 Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon is one of the oldest races in the country, but runner participation has been dwindling. Some blame this on regions focus on football, baseball and basketball while others attribute the low profile to the race's own personnel and lack of marketing to the community and elsewhere. The race has heard these complaints and is unveiling a new course for it's thirty-first event.

		Delaware Marathon-right time, right race (Delaware Online) Delaware Marathon which is celebrating its fifth anniversary has reached its registration quota at over six hundred and fifty runners. Returning to the race are the top three finishers from 2007, Kevin Beugless who won in a 2:39:16; runner-up Marco Capelli with a 2:43:27 finisher and Eric Makovsky who was third in a 2:45:57. The race is a flat four loop course.

		Rothesay runner third in Fredericton Marathon (Telegraph Journal) In his third marathon, Travis Saunders won the thirtieth Fredericton Marathon in a time of 2:43:34 beating 2006 champion Len Falkenstein by ten minutes. Falkenstein followed in 2:53 and Bruce Rosvall was third in a 2:55:53. Janice Ashworth, competing in her first marathon, won in a 3:06:27. Daun Lynch and Maggie Johnson rounded out the top three for women with times of 3:14:14 and 3:21:03 respectively.

		Great Wall Marathon greatest challenge (icWales) Karl Baynham has run in New York and London but the fifty-one year old London taxi driver plans to take on the famous Great Wall Marathon. Baynham is running to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust following the death of his friend's daughter. He has run two New York City Marathons and four London Marathons.

		Security slows foreign runners for Cellcom Green Bay Marathon (Green Bay Press Gazette) With civil unrest in Kenya and stricter visa rules, race organizers bringing in foreign elite athletes are meeting with some difficulty. Visas which are necessary to enter the United States require extensive documentation and often mean interviews at the embassies and the process can become lengthier with increased security concerns. The delay places a strain on both the runners and on organizers, who aren't sure how many hotel rooms they need to reserve or arrangements they must make.

		3 charities look forward to Greenbay marathon race day (GreenBay Press Gazette) This year's charities are the Green Bay Boys and Girls Club, the Red Cross Lakeland Chapter and The Salvation Army of Brown County. These charity organizations won't just sit around and hope for money during the race, they will provide most of the 2,000 volunteers that it takes to organize and set up for the race. There will be well over 15 thousand dollars raised for the community organizations.

		Man dies during Journeys Marathon (Daily News) A call over the police radio announced that a runner was down. A 11:21 am Robert Zapranoff, 68, of Mercer, collapsed while running the Journeys Marathon. He was taken to Eagle River Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead by Vilas County Deputy Coroner Mike Gough. Connie Heeg, executive race director, stated that the death during the Journeys marathon was the first ever in the event.
		Sixty-eight-year-old man dies during marathon in Eagle River (Chicago Tribune) Robert Zapranoff collapsed during the 2008 Journey's Marathon. There is no word of cause of death. Online records kept by the marathon say Zapranoff completed the race last year.

		Danger wins 1st Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon (SC Times) Paul Danger won the inaugural Lake Wobegon Trail marathon in a 2:47:36. Runner-up David Hartz finished in 3:04:01 and Stanley Hup was third in 3:17:02. Kalli Christen won the women's race in a 3:19:07.

		Quebecers take home top honours in Mississauga Marathon (The Mississauga News) Nathalie Goyer, of St. Bruno Quebec, was the first women to cross the finish line during the 5th annual Mississauga Marathon. Goyer completed the run early Sunday morning in 2:53:20. Terry Gehl of St. Charles, Quebec, was the first to cross the finish line at 2:28.28.

		Dentist closes in on marathon milestone at Missaugua. (Globesports) Rick Rayman, a dentist and the father of two and grandfather of three takes aim on the milestone of 200 complete marathons. Mississauga will be his 186th since 1978. He completed 16 in 2007. Rayman's most recent roadwork was the St. John's Waterloo marathon, April 27, in 4 hours 51 minutes.

		Olympic Marathon Runner Lee Troop in Stalking Court Battle (Herald Sun) Troop, the 35 year old Olympic Marathoner slapped a restraining order on Phil Johnson for making harassing phone calls to Troop and his coach of ten years, Olympian Steve Moneghetti.

		Tune to attack One Hour World record in Ostrava (IAAF) 2008 Boston Marathon Winner Dire Tune will attempt to set a One Hour World record. Tune plans to run more than the 18,340m within in a sixty minute period, a feat achieved by Tegla Loroupe back in 1998 in Borgholzhausen, Germany. This is the same track where Haile broke the record.

		Brisbane runner aims high (Brisbane Times) Aidan Hobbs won the Brisbane Marathon last month and has his sights set on the Commonwealth Games in 2010. With a PR of 2 hours and 43 minutes for the 42 kilometer race, Hobbs hopes to run even faster.

		Kiplagat headlines Utrecht in search of Olympic Qualifier (IAAF) Two-time World Road Running champion Lornah Kiplagat will lead the field in a women's 10,000m in Utrecht, Netherlands. Kiplagat will be joined by her cousin Hilda Kibet who also missed achieving an Olympic qualifier at the European Cup 10,000m in Istanbul last month. In 2007, Kiplagats focus was the 10,000m at the World Championships in Osaka, but a calf injury sustained in May was serious enough to curtail her training and sideline her from Osaka.

		In Kenya, Violence Shakes Running Community (The New York Times) Luke Kibet won the world marathon championship last August and was thought to do what no other Kenyan has been able to do: win the Olympic Gold Medal in the Olympic Marathon. Kenya's civil unrest has disrupted many of the Kenyan athlete's training. The Beijing Olympics is challenge enough and the added life stress will make these Olympic Games even tougher to prepare for.

		In final Beijing tune-up, Noguchi take Sendai Half Marathon title (IAAF) Defending Olympic Marathon champion Mizuki Noguchi won the 18th Sendai Half Marathon on Sunday clocking 1:08:25. Noguchi used the half marathon as a confidence builder and to test her physical and mental capabilities. Kenyan Harun Njoroge won the men's race in a 1:01:55.
		Marathon Ace Goumri Added to Healthy Kidney 10-K (Race Results Weekly) With the withdrawal of U.S.A. Olympic medal hopeful, Dathan Ritzenhein, New York Road Runner's Healthy Kidney 10-K race announces the entry of top marathoner Abderrahim Goumri. Goumri who finished third at the 2008 London Marathon in a course record time of 2:05:30, holds Morocco's 10,000m record of 27:02.62.

		Powerwalk on the Moonlit Marathon (Driffield Times) Mary Jo Moore and Sharon Darlington, from Driffield, are taking part in the 11th Playtex MoonWalk on May 17. 15,000 walkers are expected to participate in the extraordinary moonlit marathon. The race starts and finishes in London's Hyde Park as participants walk in decorated bras, to raise money for Breast Cancer charities.
		Marathon loser Pietri remembered as a giant (Guardian) Dorando Pietri led the 1908 Olympic Marathon before staggering and stumbling and being helped across the finish line. A statue in his home town of Capri has been erected to commemorate the Italian runner who was the unofficial winner and then later disqualified for the aide he recieved.

		Injury Forces Ritzenhein Out of Healthy Kidney 10K (Race Results Weekly) 2008 U.S. Olympic Marathon Team athlete Dathan Ritzenhein has withdrawn from New York Road Runner's Healthy Kidney 10K race due to an injury to the third metatarsal of his left foot he had sustained at the 2008 Cross Country Championships earlier this year. Ritzenhein also suffered problems with his iliotibial band and hamstrings and had been taking anti-inflamatory medications for six months and will take the time to rest before the 10,000 meter trials in Eugene, Oregon in two months. Ritzenhein won the 10K race last year setting a course record in 28:07.2.
