2022 TCS New York City Marathon Men's Preview and Starter List

The 2022 Men's Marathon is loaded with eleven men who have run sub 2:08 and seven more who have run sub 2:10 - those are fast times. Of course the New York City Marathon - with no pacers, and with ills and heat and humidity (this year, at least), will not see all of these men running that fast, nonetheless with a field this deep, we can expect to see a great race all the way to the finish line.

Returning to defend his title from the 2021 New York City Marathon, is Albert Korir. Korir, a consistent 2:08 marathoner, will have his work cut out for him as a number of faster runners will be challenging to take his crown in 2022. At the top of the list stands Evans Chebet (with a personal best of 2:03:00!), the 2022 Boston Marathon champion, who since 2016 has finished nine marathons all under 2:08, so all faster than Albert Korir's best time. Shura Kitata, the 2018 NYC Marahton runner-up and 2020 winner of the London Marathon in a personal best of 2:05:41 has failed to make the podium in his last two marathons (the 2021 London Marathon in 2:07:51, and the 2022 Tokyo Marathon in 2:06:12), but even when failing to make the podium at London or Tokyo his times continue to indicate he will bea contender at New York City.

Rounding out the international field will be Daniel Do Nasciemento of Brazil who has only been running marathons since 2021 and will be running his first World Marathon Majors marathon, but in his short marathoning career, he has notched four finishes ranging from 2:04:51 to 2:09:06. Abdi Nageeye, with his personal best of 2:04:56 from the 2022 Rotterdam Marathon and his runner-up finish at the 2021 Tokyo Marathon suggest he can be make it to the podium, but Nageeye struggled at the 2021 NYC Marathon to finish a disappointing fifth.

Representing the USA, Galen Rupp will be making his New York City Marathon debut. Rupp who was the 2016 Olympic Marthon bronze-medalist, 2017 Chicago Marathon champion, and 2021 Chicago Marathon runner-up holds a personal best of 2:06:07 and has shown success on hills and in hot/humid weather, so the New York City Marathon course might just suit the American - all in the USA will be watching Rupp. Rounding out the American team will be Leonard Korir with his personal best of 2:07:56, Scott Fauble who set his personal best of 2:08:52 at the 2022 Boston Marathon and Marty Hehir. And lastly, of course, we all want to see Abdi Abdirahman, now 45 years old, continue to run strong. Abdi, at 43 proved himself to be the third fastest American at the Olympic Trials Marathon in 2020 to earn his way to his fifth Olympics - and he still does not seem to slow down. Wheteher or not Abdirahman can make the podium, we'll expect him to be the first masters finisher and put on a great show.
