Favorite Runs - Ventura Beach Run

Back to List

Location:Ventura, CA, USA
Description: Features ocean, mountain and city views, surfers, bikinis (best in late summer), abundant wildlife on land, sea and air. In a word Beautiful.
Park near the corner of Pierpont Blvd. and San Pedro St. Follow the bike path north through San Buenaventura State Beach Park. The main feature of the run is of course the Pacific Ocean and The Channel Islands (National Monument), they look incredible, especially in the fall and winter. Along the way you will see: Mile 1: The Ventura Pier (the longest wooden pier in the state); Mile 2: The Ventura River with views of nesting Pelicans and Sea Gulls across the river. This is also the place you want to be at sunset (Spectacular! especially in fall and winter); Mile 3-4: a quiet stretch where you may see rabbits peek out to see who's running through their neighborhood. Between mile 4 and mile 5 at the top of a short rise/bridge is the most choice view of the Pacific. Don't forget to look for dolphins, you may be rewarded along the way; Mile 5-11: run along the ocean for 22 mile round trip if you want. You will love it.
