I no longer live in Oklahoma City, but when I return to visit family I know this delightful run is waiting me! Lake Hefner is in the NW part of the city and has an asphalted trail running completely around the lake. You can access the trail by several parking lots on the east and south sides of the lake (I use the parking lot north from the 63rd Ave entrance) There are water fountains on the south and east sides but it is pretty dry on the west/northwest half so bring water! The circuit of the lake is just a tad over 9 miles of glorious lake view (for the most part) windswept (very likely) running! A huge treat for out of state visitors like myself who would like longer runs without the usual interminable stoplight-ridden routes. If you are feeling pretty feisty, you can double the circuit of the lake for a 30K! One more circuit-a marathon+! One more thing: OKC runners are a very friendly bunch: they even wave or smile to you as they pass by! This compares favorably with some places I have run where the runners look like they will get out their pepperspray if you even nod at them!
