A 67km Mountain Run over the Kepler mountains in Te Anau. (Normally a three-four day tramp).The run starts off with a 6km flat section through beech forest then moves up hill to the Luxmore Hut about 1200m above sea level. From there the track climbs steadily to 1450m and crosses the alpine section where a spectacular descent to the Iris Burn hut takes you to the bush floor. Flat section follows the Waiau river along to Lake Manapouri to the Motorau hut onto the last stage of 17km to the finish. The winners will complete this run in just under 5hrs, the last runners to cross the line will complete the course in around 11hrs. After the run has finished, the race organisers makes every individual feel like a winner!! |
