Hard packed gravel trail that runs for 5 miles along 18th century Augusta canal. Canal runs parallel to the Savannah River, which is unnavigable at this point due to beautiful rocky rapids. Farms of South Carolina are on the far side of the river-gorgeous! Along the canal, there is plenty of wildlife: otters, alligators, blue herons, eagles, deer, etc. Wide enough for 8 runners abreast. Start at the 18th century dam works(locks) on the east end of Evans to Locks Road. |
