The 34th Annual Shamrock Sportsfest Marathon and 8K
announces an addition of a Half Marathon and a 3-Day event
July 25, 2005…..Virginia Beach, VA
What better way to get you in the mood for St. Patrick's Day than a 3 day
weekend in Virginia Beach, VA. This year the 34th annual Shamrock
Sportsfest announces that it will add a new race to its venue, a
half-marathon.
The popular East Coast event, Shamrock Sportsfest Marathon, Half-Marathon
and 8k, returns to Virginia Beach on March 17-19, 2006 for its 34th year.
The 2006 race offers an event for the entire family with all new race
categories and new course which will begin and end at the Virginia Beach
Oceanfront.
According to race directors, Jerry and Amy Frostick the three day event
offers races for all levels and all ages. The addition of the
Half-Marathon will add a day to the event with the 8K and Children's Races
on Saturday and the Half-Marathon and Marathon races on Sunday. The
Frostick's are also promoting the fight of childhood obesity by encouraging
elementary schools to participate in The Final Mile Competition. The goal
is to have the children run 25.2 miles prior to the event during gym and
recess and finish the last mile during The Boardwalk One Mile Run.
Shamrock has set incentives for the schools with the greatest amount of
participation.
The weekend will begin on Friday with the ever popular Sports and Fitness
Expo at the new Virginia Beach Convention Center and end with a Finish Line
Celebration on Sunday on one of the East Coast's most beautiful beaches.
Registration is now open for all races at www.shamrockmarathon.com. For
more information you can call 757-412-1056 or email
.
Due to the popular demand of the half marathon the race is limited to the
first 5,000 entries.
Proceeds for the races benefit The Joy Fund, United Mitochondrial Disease
Foundation, and Special Olympics.
