St. Louis, MO-- In an effort to promote community fitness and fight the
rising rate of obesity, Go! St. Louis, Mayor Francis Slay, Olympian Ray
Armstead and the St. Louis Rams have joined together to host a series of
free fitness events scheduled for September 20 - 23 in St. Louis.

Among the events is an education workshop for physical education teachers,
a National Walk at Work Day and a One Mile Family Fun Run/Walk at the Taste
of St. Louis. The weekend will also serve as the start line for their
nationally recognized Read, Right & Run Marathon which encourages children
to be reading proficient, physically fit and community minded.

GO! St. Louis, formerly Spirit of St. Louis Marathon and Family Fitness
Weekend, has changed its name to reflect its new broader mission to
encourage individuals and families in the region to adopt a healthy
lifestyle by getting fit, staying active, and eating a healthy diet. In
addition to offering events throughout the year GO! St. Louis will continue
to host their signature April marathon fitness weekend, now in its eighth
year which attracts more than 16,000 people.

"Obesity is on the rise and family fitness is waning. GO! St. Louis is
excited to provide ways for families to get fit together throughout the
year. Through collaboration with other like-minded organizations we will
work to create additional fitness opportunities for people of all ages and
abilities," said Nancy Lieberman, President GO! St. Louis.

"Fitness and a healthy lifestyle are issues we cannot afford to ignore,"
said Mayor Francis G. Slay. The successful future of our community depends
on the overall wellness of the people who live here."
