The sixth annual Hi-Seoul Marathon posted nearly 9,000 finishers with Sohn Hyeon winning the men’s division with a time of two hours, 37 minutes and 40 seconds while Lee Jeong-suk took the women’s division with a time of two hours, 53 minutes and 22 seconds.

Kim Yi-yong yesterday proved himself one of the nation’s elite runners again at the 2008 Dong-A Seoul International Marathon. Kim who was first Korean finisher and overall seventh place finisher in 2:11:14. Sammy Korir won the marathon in 2:07:32. The winner of the women's race was Zhang Shu Jing of China in 2:26:11.

   Kenya Sweeps Seoul Marathon (Korea Times)
Sammy Korir, best known for pacing Paul Tergat to a world record finish in 2003, won the 2008 Seoul Marathon in 2:07:32. Runner-up was Jason Mbote in a 2:07:37 and third was Edwin Komen in a 2:07:45. Top Koreans were Kim Yi-yong of South Korea who finished in 2:11:14 and Lee Bong-ju, silver medalist at the 1996 Summer Atlanta Olympics, who was eighth in a 2:12:27.

The 2008 Dong-A Seoul International Marathon was Sammy Korir won in a 2:07:32, the fourth fastest time of his career and the best since April 2006. Zhang Shujing of China won the women's contest in 2:26:11. Korir already ran his second Marathon of the year; earlier he had finished third in Dubai in January clocking 2:08:01.

   Elite Runners to Compete in Seoul Int’l Marathon (Dong A IIlbo)
2008 Seoul International Marathon is expecting 25,000 participants, 1,225 of whom have finish times under three hours. The men's elite field will include two-time champion Buzinggo Donatien from Burundi, Korea's National Record Holder Kim Yong-taek and winner of the Gyeongju International Marathon Kim Young-bok. The women's field defending champion Lee Jeong-sook, 43, will have competition from female runners in their 40s and 50s such as Moon Ki-sook, 46, whose personal best is 2:47:52 and Kim Jeong-ok, 54, whose personal best is 2:52:25.

Choi Gyeong-ryeol, who coaches many of the athletes uses the 8km race to prepare his athletes legs for the marathon. Most considered Lee Bong-ju a long shot to win the Seoul Marathon. At 37 years of age and well past the average prime for running , Lee pulled off the upset against 21 formidable Kenyan runners. Bong-ju was over 30 meters behind Paul Kiprop Kirui at the 38K mark and surged past Kirui to pull of the upset and inspire a nation. The tv ratings soared above any other previous mark by any other Koren aired television program.

   50-Year-Old Marathoner Seizes Dong-A Marathoners Best Runner’s Award (Donga.com)
Fifty-year old Kim Yeong-guk was awarded the Best Runner's Award in the Dong-A Marathoners Award Ceremony. Dong-A Ilbo, the sponsor of Seoul International Marathon in March, and the HiSeoul, Baekje Keungil and Gyeongju International marathons in the fall have chosen Kim from a group of eight finalists based on their record over a full race. In 2007 Kim had finish times of 2:47:25 at the Seoul International Marathon and finished in 2:27:10 at the Gyeongju International Marathon.
