David Mandago was the mens winner of the 2008 Hamburg Marathon in a 2:07:23 while Irina Timofeyeva won the the womens race setting a course record in 2:24:14. Almost twenty runners in the men's race had reached the half way mark in 1:03:17, but Mandago broke away at the 35K mark to win.

Lima and Kimuria lead pack at Hamburg marathon

Brazilian Vanderlei Lima captured the men's race at the Hamburg marathon Sunday, while Emily Kimuria took the women's event.
The 23-year-old Lima finished in 2 hours, 9 minutes and 39 seconds to easily beat two Kenyans. Thomas Chemitei was second at 2:11:27 and Fred Kiptum Kiprop third at 2:11:45.

Baumann loses appeal to run in Hamburg marathon

German marathoner Dieter Baumann lost his appeal of a drug ban in order to compete in this weekend's Hamburg Marathon. Baumann was banned from international competition after failing a drug test for a banned steriod in 1999. He vowed to continue his fight against the IAAF ruling and may take his appeal to the German Supreme Court.
