Marchinko, Thompson win Charlotte marathon title
(Charlotte Observer) Robert Marchinko won the Charlotte Observer Marathon Run For Peace last weekend in 2 hours, 37 minutes 51 seconds, biting off sub-zero temperatures. Temperatures only started in the 10's and crept up to 20 when racers hit the finish line. Sherry Thompson won the women's race in 2 hours 59 minutes and 11 seconds, a personal best. | ||

Charlotte Observer Marathon Runners Race in the Cold
(Charlotte News Channel; Daily Tomato) The Charlotte Marathon had a specific message this year to fight domestic violence, which goes beyond their general message which is to 'run for peace'. Proceeds from the race go to The Family Center and the United Family Services for Battered Women. There is even a 'Marathon Momma Team' participating in the race which is set to go at 6 am Saturday morning despite expected low temperatures. | ||

Observer benefit marathon sees participation double
