Rwanda: Big Names Shun Kigali Marathon
(The New Times) Citing too little prize money, race officials of the Kigali Marathon are expecting far less elite athletes in the 2009 edition of one of Rwanda's most prestigious races. The marathon winner will only grab two-thousand dollars. So far only four-hundred athletes have registered for the race.

Rwanda: U.S.$23,200 Cash Prize for Kigali International Marathon

Peace Marathon Registration Hits Seven Hundred
(All Africa) Seven hundred sixty six athletes have registered for the 2008 Kigali International Peace Marathon which will feature international and national athletes. There is a full marathon, a half marathon and a fun run. Last year Daniel Rotich won the full marathon in the men's race and Prisca Kiprono won the women's race.

$23,200 At Stake for Kigali Marathon Winners
(allAfrica) The Rwandan Kigali Marathon will raise it's stakes for the top finishers in the marathon and half marathon in an effort to attract top competitors from around the globe. The first five winners in the marathon event are expected to take home 2000, $1500, $1200, $800 and $600 respectively.
Winners in half marathon will pocket $1600, $1400, $1200, $800 and $500 respectively. Each prize is up nearly 50% over last years prize purse.

Rotich Wins International Peace Marathon
(All Africa) Kenyan Daniel Rotich clocked 2: 20: 43 to successfully fulfil his dream of winning the Kigali International Peace Marathon. Rotich, who finished second behind his country man Benjamin Bitok in last year's event, dropped two minutes from the 2006 performance.
