Run With It: Hawaii's Marathon Isles

The Hawaii Ironman is not the only way to run a marathon on the island state. Hawaii is now home to five marathons. The newest is the Kauai Marathon which will be held on September 6, 2009. Honolulu will take place December 14 for the 35th anniversary. The longstanding Kilauea Volcano Marathon was discontinued after the last race this past July due to environmental concerns.

Kauai Marathon Draws 140 Runners to Challenging Cane and Coffee Field Course

Race Director, Walter Bono's dream came true this weekend at the inaugural Kauai Marathon. The race was won by a local man named Leo McCarthy. 75 percent of the 140 total runners were from Hawaii, while the others came from Germany, Spain, Canada, O'ahu and other Neighboring Islands. Next year's event is tentatively scheduled for March 14th 2004, with the motto: "keep it a fun event."
