Filomeno Apodaca of Las Cruces, N.M., won Saturday's St. George Marathon in Utah, finishing in 2:16:25, just a minute shy of the course record. Apodaca, the 1999 winner, battled for first against last year's champion, Curtis Moore of Riverton, UT, who took second in 2:18:47.

Japan's Nomura leads women in St. George

Kayoko Nomura of Japan won for third time in as many times Saturday's St. George Marathon in Utah. From St. George's sister city, Nomura won twice in the late 1990s. She finished in 2:43:44 for 2002.
