Illness slowed Wisconsin Olympic marathon runner

American Rod DeHaven, the only U.S. runner in the men's Olympic marathon, finished a disappointing 69th place after illness slowed him, forcing him at least once to use a port-o-let along the course. Sidney was his first and, he says now, final Olympics.

After fast women's race, men reconsider marathon prospects

Runners in the men's marathon examined the ups and downs of the Olympic course and decided there was no way that the times would be all that great. Then the women shattered the Olympic record last week. That gave the men a tough act to follow on Sunday, when the 26.2-mile race is run from North Sydney to Olympic Stadium. It ends just before the start of the closing ceremony.
