Tigst Assefa, the defending champion and women-only world record holder (2:11:53), will return to the TCS London Marathon on April 26, 2026, to defend her title. She will face Olympic champion Sifan Hassan (2:13:44) and world champion Peres Jepchirchir (2:14:43), both past winners of the World Athletics Platinum Label road race. Joyciline Jepkosgei (2:14:00), who finished between Assefa and Hassan in London last year, won the Valencia Marathon last month in a world-leading time. The elite women's field represents the strongest competition in marathon racing, with multiple world-class athletes competing for the prestigious title.

Sebastian Sawe will defend his London Marathon title on April 26, 2026, against an elite field including Jacob Kiplimo, Joshua Cheptegei, Tamirat Tola, and Selemon Kejelcha. After winning London last year, Sawe clinched victory in Berlin, meaning he has not lost over the marathon distance (Valencia 2024, London 2025, Berlin 2025). Sawe ran 2:02:27 with a negative split of 60:57 for the second half, demonstrating huge potential. Sawe predicts that whoever wins the 2026 London Marathon will likely need to break the course record of 2:01:25 set by Kelvin Kiptum in 2023, given the caliber of the elite field.
