A very well organized run.
As the 2nd running, I figured there would be some kinks to work out, but this is a really well run marathon. My only complaint was the packet pickup was in a United Supermarket at a little patio on the side. No signs pointed you there. Once you found it, everyone was wonderful. There is no expo, which suits me. By event staff I was told there are about 1500 runners, a little over 100 in the full, then some in the full-relay, half, and 5k. Parking and traffic were no problem on race day. Experienced marathoners were confused by the porta-potties...no lines and we just weren't used to walking right in. Start area had no issues. The course is the outer loop of Hwy 289. I'm from Colorado and would call it fairly flat. The overpasses are small and gradual climbs and descents of less than 50 feet (my estimate). Lubbock is over 3000 feet, so a little thinner air. Web site and organizers advertise spectators can view at 3 locations, but family/support crew can easily stop almost anywhere on the frontage road and walk over to the course. There are very few spectators, but the inner loop traffic often honks and cheers. There is a porta-potty at every mile, water and Gatorade at every mile except a couple, and snacks very frequently in the latter half. The scenery is not exciting. First half is all businesses and the second half is east Lubbock where it is mostly grain, shipping, and farming to see from the highway. The volunteers and staff are all super friendly and helpful. Finish had enough drink and food selection to meet your needs. There were bounce houses and food for spectators. Maybe not my favorite run, but really well organized with a nice, friendly feel, not a difficult course and well supported. No significant complaints.

HUGE Inaugural Success!
Was so excited when this race was announced and it certainly lived up to ALL expectations. A very unique course in that you run on a completely secure and closed loop around the city. A small field as would be expected in the first year but fully expect this race to grow in popularity.
The course is challenging with relentless hills (overpasses). The weather was absolutely ideal this year, but can never be sure about the wind in west Texas in April . Not much for scenery but that was made up for in the aid stations EVERY mile with enthusiastic and encouraging volunteers. Spectators were sparse but, would expect that to improve with more community awareness in the coming years. The marathon course is ideal for supporters to follow their runners from start to finish if desired.
No Expo (yet) but packet pick up was easy and efficient; excellent race shirt... actually true to size and fits!...and a unique belt buckle finisher medal. Prize money for the top finishers as well which is very unusual for a race this size.
Lubbock has no shortage of hotels and restaurants and is easily accessible by air.
You maniacs and 50 staters need to put this race on your 'to do' list. Looking forward to the 2019 edition
