Nike, after being slammed with emails about the Nike Women's Marathon winner, has made a step to officially recognize Arien O'Connell as the official winner of the women's marathon event. She received her first place trophy in recognition of her fastest time on the course even though she did not cross the finish line first.

Arien O'Connell was the big winner after the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francico. Co-winner's were announced after it was discovered that O'Connell did not start with the elite women but had the fastest time over the 26.2 mile course. Reebok has stepped to the plate awarding her new shoes for one year and making a donation to the school where O'Connell works.

Marathon runner Arien O'Connell will be a winner after all from Sunday's Nike Women's Marathon. A Nike Representative called O'Connell and said that she would recieve the same award as the woman who started with the elite group 20 minutes ahead of O'Connell

Jon Hendershott, associate editor of the Track and Field News magazine, based in Mountain View California said "That's pretty weak" regarding the decision to not award the victory to the fastest time of the day to marathon runner Arien O'Connell, a 24 year-old teacher.
