Bang for your Buck
I participated in the walk section of this marathon. There was an early start. The course was well marked and there were volunteers all along the route. I am a back of the pack like last runner and the organizers stayed with you. Even if you had to navigate it by yourself you could have. A lot of the route is in a park so you don't have to worry about vehicles. A lot of bikes are also using the path though. It was a scenic route - it does go through some neighbourhoods but I felt safe from traffic. There were some nice touches - the flags representing the participants countries are at the finish line - I wanted to grab 'the Bahamas' and run through like a Boston marathon winner. The host hotel was very nice - there was room service - also on race day they had a bag breakfast for participants - there was also ample free parking at the hotel and at the race start. It was easy to get to the race, park and leave. Regina is a very nice city. your race photos are included in the registration and you could get a personalized bib. The organizers and the volunteers did a wonderful job. I would definitely recommend it.

Weekend of Canadian nice-- very well done QCM!
Having finished 50 States, I've pondered running Canada. My determination & enthusiasm to do so, after QCM, is now absolute. Pre-race communications, Expo, multiple races (wish I'd done the Scribbly challenge, not just the marathon), course marking & volunteers, swag-- all demonstrated excellent organization. It was done so well because the Race Directing team are runners. On marathon day, running temps were very pleasant and the course was mostly a flat mix of urban parks & residential neighborhoods. Despite a leg issue, it was the fastest race by far of 7 I've completed in 2018. Really like the shirt and LOVE my medal & 42.2 car magnet!

By runners for runners on a beautiful course
Organizers pay attention to every detail, and as runners they know what runners want. Beautiful and varied, well marked course, enthusiastic volunteers, no issues with water, gatorade, porto potties. Not many spectators but that's not what it's about for me. The people I did meet were super friendly and helpful. Everything pre and post race was easy as can be. Nice quality tech shirt and medal. Extra special touch was flags at the start/finish line for all the states, provinces and countries of the runners. Definitely recommend this one.

Definite Pros and Cons
This was my 1st time at QCM, and I have mixed feelings about my time there.
Pros: The course was beautiful. Long stretches through the park system along the river was nice. The course was extremely well marked and marshaled.
Cons: Water cups were VERY small making staying efficiently hydrated a near impossibility without slowing and taking 2 cups at the stations. As a faster runner, the tight corners along the park trails made keeping a quick rhythm virtually impossible. I also nearly was hit twice by vehicles along the partially closed roadways.
I got a new PR, so I can't complain too much, but I don't think I'll be heading back to Regina again for another go at the QCM.

QCM is a great marathon
2011 was an unusually hot September in Regina. The race organizers & volunteers were ready with extra aid stations/drinks, & water hoses. EMS personale were highly visible/available for anyone who felt ill because of the high temperatures. (It was 89 degrees F/ 31 degrees celcius after lunch) I have run this race many times, and it is usually cool/cold, so this was a huge difference.
I liked the new course. (don't care for the bridge underpasses on the old course)

Well organized with a nice new and flat course
This is my second time running the full marathon here. I had previously run the half once. This year was my sixth time running the full distance overall (with about another six halfs under my belt) and I entered the race only as a training run enroute to an ultra. I was glad I wasn't racing as it was 90 degrees by the time I got to the finish.
The pros on this race are that the organizers and volunteers are terrific. We knew it was going to be very hot, and unusually so, and it was a pleasant surprise to see that the organizers had hired several water tanker trucks to be on course to hose us down. Also, leading up to the 20 mile point volunteers from one water stop had set up an extra unplanned water station so that we could get extra hydration. Very nice! Other positives are the t-shirt is nice and that they have a separate post-race food tent for marathoners so you don't have to worry about the halfers or relay folks eating all the food (especially for a slow poke like me). There were also lots of portalets on course. One other point is that though there are not many spectators, a number of people in the several neighborhoods we ran through set up sprinklers and/or were ready with their hoses for us. One guy even had his set up a dozen feet past the end of his property as we ran through a park. Very nice! The only place I have ever seen this kind of helpfulness from spectators was in Fargo when I ran the half a few years ago (nice folks down there!).
A con is that the race sells out very early. I think they could expand the numbers somewhat, especially if they had an earlier start to the marathon like lots of bigger races do. Another con is that the race starts at 8:00 a.m. I haven't run another full or half that starts that late. On a cooler day, this is not a big deal, but on a hot day a 7:00 a.m. start would have helped to avoid some of the later heat.
I heard pre-race grumbling about the new course (a change made due to early summer flooding that caused several bridge underpasses on the old course to be impassable), but I was really pleased with the change. The new course is basically a two-looper, with the second loop adding 3 mile or so stretch to get the length in. I liked going by the same folks at the same water stops, plus seeing the same volunteers out there. Also, most of the loop goes around the Wascana Lakes and is in parkland, which makes almost all of the run very pleasant.
My one suggestion on the course is that the marathoners run the extra section on the easternmost part of the course in the first lap and then have a shorter second loop.

A great prairie run
The organization is top notch, the fan support is enthusiastic, and the course is pretty, scenic, gently rolling and ever-changing. Some people moan because there are minimal fans (unlike Boston's 500,000 lovable, cheering maniacs), but Boston is special. If people need that kind of support everywhere they run, perhaps you should consider a different sport. The people of Regina were great.

Very fast, friendly
Newly paved, flat, very fast after 2 miles for the pack to thin - certainly a good choice for a BQ attempt, despite the 1900' elevation. Race administration and volunteers were friendly and flawless - a delightful event to go to and a pretty course mostly along a river or lakes. Highly recommend it!

Organization is the best
This was a very well organized and enjoyable marathon. I loved the race announcer who made me feel like a star as he announced my name as I crossed the finish line. He made note that I was from Green Bay, Wisconsin, "home of our second-favorite football team!" Very cool. I liked running back through the start line and hearing all of the cheering from the spectators surrounding the start area. The course was fair, yet some of the footing was poor on the older trails. I do prefer running on roads, but this was a nice change. The second half does roll a bit, but otherwise it's not too bad and I was still able to run the tangents. I had my second best time ever, so I was pleased. It was a bit congested at the end, but this is expected with walkers and relay marathoners (etc.) at the finish. The finish area was superb and I like the fact the food was given to us in a bag (for easy carry) on top of the fact that the marathoners had their own food tent and supply. I highly recommend this marathon to anyone looking for a great race and town, as well as a good time!

Great, beautiful run put on by the Queen City!
I've run this run every year since the beginning, even though I moved to Ontario. It is a great run, and the organization is fantastic! I will be back next year again for the 10th year! I ran a PB this year on the course, and hope to improve next year! Thanks so much, Regina!!! :)

Try this marathon
I ran the full Queen City Marathon again in 2009 and plan to return again. It was my 35th marathon and one of the best organized. It is not large, but in many ways, it compares with my other marathons in Chicago, Boston, Twin Cities. It is a good Boston qualifier.
Registration was easy, but it sold out six weeks before race day. It has good communication by e-mail.
The race started on time with many water stations and marshals. The rolling hills in the second half were harder than one would expect from a prairie town. The finish line and post-race food were well done.

We Love Regina - and QCM!
My husband and I have taken part in every QCM since it began - in one form or another. The 2009 edition was the best one yet.
An ENORMOUS thanks to Doug, Kim, and all of the volunteers. Regina rocks! See you out there in 2010.

Beautiful Course
This was my first time running in the Queen City Regina Marathon, and it did not disappoint. I had heard a lot of good things and all of them were true. I enjoyed the email updates that I received before the race; each one felt like a message from a family member. Although very small, the expo was good. The start/finish line was very easy to get to and from. Parking wasn't a problem at all. The course itself was beautiful and the volunteers were amazing. I truly had a great time and will definitely be back. Thanks for the hospitality, Regina!

A Great Event
I enjoyed all aspects of this race, from the comprehensive website, to the energy of the volunteers. Nothing in between disappointed me. As a participant, I felt very well supported throughout the race. I will definitely be back, attempting to be one of the many who qualify for Boston.

fun run on the prairies
All in all, a great race. My goal was to qualify for the Boston after an absence from marathoning for three years due to knee surgery. That did not happen. I hope to have better luck next year. The first aid station was the best; the music was playing in my head long after their station. I hope they are there again next year. It was extra special that I got a "high five" from my brother in law, Al. He has been volunteering for a few years now. I feel this marathon is first-class and hope to be back next year. Thanks to all who helped make it happen.

Regina Marathon did not disappoint
Great day for a race as the temperature was perfect. Very nice course - flat, fast and quite scenic. The volunteers and onlookers are what made this race great; they were so friendly and helpful! A real sense of community was evident and it represents the city well. No complaints about this race, and it is one that I will return to!

Excellent event - Well organized - Kudos to all!
Thoroughly enjoyed this event. My first time, but not my last. The course was very picturesque, and was well supported. I was a little disappointed with the quality of the t-shirt - maybe an upgrade for next year. The awards ceremony lacked atmosphere, so maybe they could be held a little later and include the age category awards as well. All in all, it was a success for me. Thank you.

Excellently Done
We wanted a marathon we could drive to over a weekend and get back from, as we are in Calgary. Every one of the many volunteers was very friendly and more than willing to help. My friend wasn't feeling that well during the first 10 miles and they arranged it on the course for her to change to the 1/2. Kudos for the organizers, as we all know after months of training anything can happen on game day. Lots of music, lots of volunteers, great course. My one suggestion would be not to go by the start place so many times, as that was fairly narrow, and mentally that's a tough one. But all in all, excellent, and we plan to return and bring our friends for maybe the half and/or the relay (and for my friend to do the full).

Great experience!
A scenic, pretty course that's fairly flat. Great weather in '07. The people were very friendly, encouraging, and enthusiastic. Lots of music along the way. The race was well-organized, well-marked, plenty of aid stations. The loop at the start was good as I was able to hand my warm-up sweater to my husband as I went by after a couple of KM in the cool morning. The start time of 8 a.m. was different, but I really liked it! That's more like when I run on my own time, not such an early morning as for a 6 or 7 a.m. start! The full marathon had its own food tent this year (as I gather was not the case previously), stocked with LOTS of food (every kind of drink, cheese, yogurt, fruit, bagels muffins, etc). It's a nice touch that they announce finishers' names as we come in. Regina is a fairly small event and the venue is good now, but you can kind of see that as it grows they may need to move. But for now this was a lot of fun; nothing at all to complain about - just a great experience, and I will definitely return!

Another marathon done - Regina is FANTASTIC!
Many congratulations to Doug, his committee and the tons of local volunteers/aid station volunteers/citizens of Regina. Regina is a FANTASTIC place to run a marathon and I am proud to call this great city home. I am British by birth and was fortunate to relocate to Saskatchewan at the end of the eighties. Perhaps you saw me out there running in my British colors....?? Thank you all for another great Saskatchewan moment. I would never ever be running marathons if it weren't for the Queen City Marathon. We have a beautiful location folks; be proud of your city! Thanks to you all for a perfect finish.

Excellent Fast Course
Excellent, flat, fast course and a great qualifier for Boston. The weather was perfect. Was able to set a personal best. Very scenic along parkland trails. Some of the pathways were fairly narrow, but the out-and-back trails were a good distraction to cheer on the other runners. The volunteers were the most supportive and were the best I've ever seen. The fans were few in some areas, but made it up with their enthusiasm. The course was well marked out and had an occasional sign for inspiration. Everyone seemed to have fun. I found the finish area great, with lots of room. I assume most of the half marathoners were done by then. Food was OK and met the needs. The tech shirt was the wrong size and they sent me one of the correct size in the mail. This is a great smaller marathon. It has a great personal touch to it. Well worth adding this to your list of fall marathons.

Very nice race and well organized!
I agree with other comments read on this website. A very well organized, flat 'n fast race with enthusiastic volunteers. Used to live in Regina and enjoyed running the half through my former SE Regina neighborhood on the race course and through Wascana Park & Legislative grounds. I have run bigger races such as Chicago LaSalle, Napa Valley, Vancouver, etc. and locally up in Saskatoon.... Regina QCM does a great job and impressed with the overall race experience. Recommend this race to others without reservation. Great job Regina!

This was the best Queen City Marathon yet
I am from Winnipeg and this makes it the 5th time to run the QCM. Each year has been better. This was by far the best. The new course is awesome and the volunteers and organization were outstanding. The best part of the race is that I have completed 11 half marathons and Regina 2006 was my first full marathon. I thank you much. Now I only have to shave off 20 minutes from my time and I will be off to BOSTON!!!!!

Regina really has something to offer
Regina really has something to offer, as a new member of the running world. The Regina Half Marathon has a great, pleasant course. I liked it much better with the change from last year. I was pleased that the medals were in a new shape that differs from last year, as I like to collect BLING. I do not like the cotton t-shirts. I would like to get something that I can use for running.

O Canada!
While I've run a lot of marathons, this was my first one in Canada. Everything was first-rate, from the pre-race emails and course description on the website (very amusing) to the organization, course and enthusiastic volunteers. Packet pick-up is in a museum, a first for me and a lovely touch. The course, which goes through park after park, is well marked and peopled with folks to make sure you don't make a wrong turn (something I'm rather inclined to do). Bicyclists patrol the course too, and quite well. I appreciated the booklet in the race packet, with details and map of the start/finish area. Music along the course was grand. Really, I can't think of anything I'd change or anything that was missing. Well-done; bravo to everyone who had a hand in putting on this event.

Need different start time for marathon full/half
Queen City Marathon needs to follow the popular and respectable trend of other successful marathons and have the Full Marathon start before the half. Regina's bike paths are too small for the nearly triple registrations of half marathoners fighting for pavement space with full marathoners. The race will attract more full marathoners and settle some of the post-race problems QCM faced this year.
Such as:
-Only 1 gel station for the entire second half of the marathon
-Food was portioned off at the tent (you could only get the amount that was handed to you and nothing more - not safe/healthy for marathoners).
-Hardly any food left for marathoners after the half-marathon finishers (marathoners had two cookies, a piece of fruit and a pop(???) - while half marathoners enjoyed soup and other hot liquids along with the other food).
-Athletes were only allowed to enter the food tent once.
I think if QCM does not start to focus on the marathon, then it should become a half-marathon race only.

Excellent support along the race course.
My friend convinced me to run this marathon and it exceeded my expectations by far - the volunteers and spectators along the route made the run fun and the miles go by. The course was clearly laid out and the race was well-organized. The course was scenic and there were lots of aid stations along the route. As well, there were shorter events so that children could participate as well. The post-race refreshments were good. I would run this marathon again. It is a good course for qualifying for Boston.

Well organized marathon with an improved route
This marathon continues to improve. The new route highlights beautiful Wascana Lake and the provincial legislature. Road closures, police and volunteer support on race-day are appreciated. The second half undulates, testing your quads and your will, but the crowd gauntlet and the hilarious race caller at the finish can be heard for the last 5 kilometers. This race is fun.

I recommend running the QCM.
I recently participated in the QCM, and want to thank everyone that contributed to its success. The QCM is well organized. The package pick-up was quick and easy. For the most part, I enjoyed the course. I was happy with the support during the race, especially the cheerful volunteers at the water tables and the course marshals. The one disappointment for me was the after-race food tent. Less pop and more fruit please. (Hint: watermelon tastes great after 26.2 miles.) The shirt is not my favorite, but it is okay. I found the crowds in the post-race area difficult to cope with right after running too. Overall though, I enjoyed my first QCM experience, and I would recommend it to my friends.

Very Enjoyable Race - Awesome
Congratulations to the organizers and volunteers - you put on a great show. The course appears to get better each year. I have run many, many marathons and I truly enjoy running the QCM course. I had one disappointment this year, albeit very minor one. Last year you had a local musician do a "Jimi Hendrix-like" rendition of "O Canada" at the race start and I was hoping to hear him again. It was a very stirring way to get the race underway. Perhaps next year.

Great race as usual. Great course, great people and great memories.

Disappointed Walker
I registered as a walker and completed the race as a walker. I am finding that we are not thought of as equal to the runners. I say this because when I look at the official times on the website, there is a gun time and a net time for the runners, but all that is calculated for the walkers is a gun time. I have a goal in my head and when you don't go by my timing chip, I wonder why I wear one. The gun time adds almost 5 minutes onto my time, which means I did not make my goal. That is very disappointing.
Other than that, it was a great event and seemed to be very well organized.

A disappointing shirt but a great run
I was really disappointed in the shirt given to the half-marathon runners. Not only is it non-technical, it doesn't even say "half-marathon" on it! I won't be wearing the shirt as I don't feel proud to wear it, and without that pride it's just another t-shirt. I WOULD BE WILLING TO PAY MORE $$$ FOR A TECHNICAL SHIRT IN THE FUTURE.
The food tent had a long line-up and I much prefer being able to get my own food rather than having it doled out to me. I understand the need to keep food costs under control; however, it's no good to have to stand and wait for 15 minutes for a cookie after a hard run.
The half-marathon course was well-supported and I liked the changes to the route. The medal is excellent! Looking forward to next year - thanks!

Great new course, but disappointed in t-shirts!!
Thank you for putting on such a great event! Everything was fantastic. I run both Regina and Saskatoon and Regina always comes out on top. I do agree with the comments I have heard; we would like to see nicer shirts next year. People are willing to pay a little more for registration just to get the cool mesh long-sleeved shirts. A lot of people were saying they don't plan on wearing these shirts, which is too bad. The course change was a big improvement - it seemed to go faster, and was not as boring! Thank you once again to all involved for a job well done. See you next year.

What An Amazing Marathon Expierence!
Hi, I'm 13 years-old and I'm from Saskatoon. I ran in the marathon last September (September 11 2005). What an amazing experience it was! The morning of the race I woke up at our friend's house in Regina and felt more sick then I ever thought I could feel. I was running in the marathon as a relay team - I was the 3rd runner, and was running 12 KM. When I met up with my team at the starting line I was so sick I was just about throwing up. Luckily one of our runners took me for a walk and just talked to me - turns out it was all just nerves that was getting to me.
Anyway, enough about that. Now, that marathon was amazing, nice flat course for a marathon. I really also liked how they had music playing along the course - it kept you pumped and energized. All around it was an amazing marathon and experience, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an easy run.

A great first marathon; flat, friendly and roomy
I ran this marathon the first time to support a friend and first-time runner. The second time I ran it with 2 of my senior students. Both were memorable experiences. The course was flat, friendly and not too crowded. Perfect for first-timers and those wanting to set a PB.

Good overall, but a couple of frustrations
I have run the QCM Half the last two years and have one correctable beef, and one general one. The one that can be fixed? The fact that the runners compete with cars in and around Douglas Park. This is a major pain, and I hope that the issue is addressed in the redesigned course for 2006. The one that can't? The lack of spectators for such long stretches.... Oh well!

Picturesque, power gels, sunshine/
It was my first time running the QCM. I loved the course. The out and back route keeps your surrounded with people so you never feel alone. Spectators for the last 5 miles are few but with only approx 300 full marathoners it is understandable. The last quarter mile was awesome as they were hundreds of people lined up as you ran into the finish. You could hear your name being announced as you ran to the finish which was a big plus. Thermal blanket for each runner is a a great idea. The weather was perfect. I really like the idea of the 5k starting loop that allows you to go by the start/finish line again. It allows you to warm up and then discard clothing to friends or family. Overall I though it was a well done marathon. The power gels were at the proper miles for me anyway. I look forward to participating again.

Awesome Race!
The Queen City Marathon is a fantastic race! I've only run two other marathons: Invermere (Loop the Lake) and Chicago. The Regina race matches Invermere for scenery and Chicago for crowd support and hoopla. People might not think of Regina as the most beautiful city in Canada but this course is very scenic, all of it around lakes, through parks, along creeks. It might be a slight exaggeration saying QCM matches Chicago for hoopla, so maybe I'll qualify that by saying on a slightly smaller scale. Still, there are bands, announcers, musicians, piles of people cheering, great aid stations. I felt supported the whole race. I haven't seen such enthusiastic volunteers since Sydney Olympics (where, I'd better mention, I was a spectator not, by a long shot, a competitor). All the cheering kids kept me smiling every step of the 42.2kms. I'd definitely do this race again. Now if only they could do something about the wind. I spent a month before the race worrying about the wind and my worries were well founded (winds gusting to 60kms/hr on race day). It's Regina--better chance than not the marathon is going to fall on a windy day. The good news is sometimes that wind's at your back. [One more thing: I ran part of the race with a woman who'd had a baby only 11 months ago but I didn't get a chance to see/congratulate her at the end. If she reads this, I'd like to let her know she was a huge inspiration. Way to go!]

My first full marathon and it was great
After reading P.N. of Winnipeg's comments I just had to add my two bits. My wife ran the half and raved about the oatmeal cookies. Almost everyone I talked too raved about the cookies. Unfortunately for me I finished well after all the cookies were gone. This was my second time at QCM and I will be attending for a third this year. The plan is to finish in time to get my cookie this year.

It was my first!
QCM 2004 was my first marathon, and overall it was a good experience. The race was very well organized, though I didn't like the pizza box race kits - mine was mistaken for garbage and cleaned up by the hotel cleaning staff! They had to retreive it (with my race bib and timing chip) from the bin!
I thought the food at the pasta party was better than at the Manitoba Marathon, but still not great. However, unlike another commenter, I LOVED the giant oatmeal raisin cookies at the finish line. I never expected to have a full meal there - what was provided was plenty.
I wasn't wild about the course - the first half is run along with the half-marathoners and the support and energy there is good. The second half includes a long out-and-back on the bike trails that seemed a lot longer in reality than it looked on the map. The last leg was through a residential area, but didn't seem to be very well marked, and by the time I was going through, it felt deserted. Not much fan support in the second half, where you need it the most.
However, the medal was big and shiny, and the long-sleeved finisher's shirt is a favorite. Also, the 'official' hotel - the Hotel Saskatchewan - was a great treat. Very old-fashioned and classy.
Overall, it was a great experience. I'll be back in 2005 to try for a PR!

Great Organization & Fans
Lots of aid stations/helpers with a choice of water or Gatorade. Entertainment was great. Thanks to the volunteers and the great spectators who cheered us on.
Wet sponge's would have been nice in the last half.
Now that Regina has such a great event drawing in more people, perhaps the city will consider re-surfacing the roads on the last 10 KM of the course.

beautiful day beautiful route
This is my second QCM, definitely NOT my last. I enjoyed the layout of the route, the loops made good use of the water stations, fans were great, and the day itself was perfect, not raining like we have had all summer in Winnipeg

Great event with great potential!
Every year the QCM gets better and better. What I like is that the volunteer committee take suggestions from previous years and implement them the next. They listen and this shows the race has great potential. It is very much a race for runners. The personal touches and 'coziness' are a welcome treat from so many others races that seem like big cattle calls. It is well worth the trip to Regina!

First Rate Festival Atmosphere.
This was my first run in the QC marathon and it lived up to all the great things I had heard from previous participants. The organization was great, the course is excellent. However for me the crowning jewel was the atmosphere that you have captured. The festival atmosphere was electric. The entertainment, spectators and supportive volunteers were awesome. I only ran the half-marathon so I can only imagine how much more appreciative the full marathoners would be. I can't wait for next year.

Great marathon... lousy eats
The actual marathon was a challenge, at times, and the support along the marathon route was excellent. BUT the pre-race pasta loading party was held on Friday - 2 days before the race. Many out of town participants arrived on Sat. and had to go to a restaurant to carb load. Race kits were provided in small size pizza boxes but there were no pizza slice coupons - did I miss the coupon or was I supposed to look at the advertising of the box and think on Saturday I need some carbs... so I'll order a pizza because darn, I missed the pasta party that was held Friday evening.
During the marathon the fan support was great and there was lots of Gatorade, water and gels. This part was really well organized.
After the marathon, the only food that was available: large, high-fat, raisin oatmeal cookies, oranges, apples, bananas and soda pop (both diet and regular). So my guess is that out of town participants had to to a restaurant to get a meal before heading home. The last time I got this type of food treatment the fee was $25, so in my opinion the fee was too high.

Less Bike Paths, More Crowd Support
I signed up for QCM with the hope of running a PR on what I assumed was going to be a flat, fast course. However, the second half of the race on the bike paths shot that dream down in flames. TIGHT corners and uneven ground made for a really unpleasant, and potentially injury-making experience. Also, where were the crowds we had been led to believe would be thronging the streets?!? I've run 4 marathons in as many cities, and have never seen such a lack of interest in the event. Don't think I'll be including QCM in next year's schedule.

I have never had a better time running!
I would like to thank all of the organizers and volunteers for a great race. This was my first time and I will definitely do it again. The only thing I will say is that I think at the water stations, you could put out garbage cans, runners can easily throw the cups into the cans. I don't think volunteers should have to pick up the runners' garbage. I would guess the majority of the cups would end up in the cans. Thanks you for a great day!!
Sincerely,
Dean Kuz

It was an awesome experience - great weather!
It was very well organized. Having run at other out-of-province events - this race is clearly a must in the fall!

Great race - race director knows hows to do it
Some may not expect this race to be appealing given the mid-Prairie geography of the town, but it matches that of many of the western marathons. Overall, I'd rate it above Kelowna, for instance, unless you like that open country running - I just prefer buildings/residential, that's all.
Course is generally flat, but given to brief rises that will knock down pace for 10-20 seconds. Some open area (for ~8km) out at the airport is prone to breeze. Don't worry about the nature of the winding course as some fret - in reality the bends are straight at the speeds of most folk; at least it was for me, as a 3:35 finisher.
Very well supported - you won't get surprised by missing water stations. They were all there at 2.5 km or closer. Held in September, this race is ideal timing for those of us who don't wish to pound out big training miles after the summer and into the fall. Fans were there, especially the family with pots, pans and wooden spoons for extra racket.
I'd do this one again.

A race for runners, but watch the details
2003 marks the second QCM for me. I'm impressed by the organizers' attitude and by the volunteer support. It feels like a race for runners.
Since this was only the third go 'round (with a new start & finish line to boot), I'm willing to cut the organizers some slack. For next year, though, there are some little details that could really improve the race:
- If QCM continues to grow, they'll need a new course. Already, the pathway system is way too congested at the entry and exit points (four or five places on the course). And what's with the gate at mile 5 (or so)?
- There was no toilet paper in the porta potties. (I was there early, and was 0 for about 25 porta johns in the TP department.)
- Out on the bike trails, fan support is pretty dismal. But, remember that it's year 3. I expect fan support will grow as the event becomes better known.
Here's some good stuff about the race:
- Despite the congestion, I like running on the bike trails, it's very scenic.
- The course is challenging - don't let anyone tell you Regina is flat.
- Did I mention the great volunteers and organizers? Gatorade at every station, gels at two points on the full marathon course, a great recovery area with warm chicken broth (!! a nice treat in the cold !!).
- Very nifty medals and T-shirts for both the half and full marathons.
I'll be back next year, budget willing.

Getting Better Each Year
I have run this Marathon each of it's 3 years in existence. Although the course which is run primarily on undulating bike/walking trails is tough on the knees/ankles, the organization of this event is great and the crowd support has been getting better each year. I definitely intend to return in 2004.

WOW! What a great event!
Organizers, volunteers and spectators of the QCMIII should be very proud of their tremendous event. Everything is very well organized and geared toward making the participant as comfortable as possible. The route is an amazing, winding tour through some very scenic parts of Regina. Crowds were enthusiastic when we ran by and the volunteers were great! Having the option for dropping extra clothing at aid stations is a nice touch that I never took advantage of. Instead, I found my 'throw-away' shirt in a well-organized pile at the finish line. I loved this course! The weather was cool but sunny, and the city is amazing. Congratulations to the city of Regina for having such a well organized event and such great volunteers. I plan to be back next year.

Very well organized, but bike path not so good
QCMIII was my first full marathon and overall, a good experience. I did the half last year, and so was very pleased that the start/finish was relocated away from the congested track. Chip distribution was also much better this year. Great looking t-shirt. However, parts of the course should be reconsidered. Although scenic, the slanted bike path was very difficult and dangerous to run on. Also, the little wooden bridge along that same section was not level with the pavement. I wasn't the only one who tripped there while crossing back.

Flat, cold and windy but still served its purpose!
I ran this marathon both years of its existence. It is flat, boring, cool to cold, windy, small dips and turns, nothing spectacular, but I loved it. With theses types of characteristics the queen city marathon still challenges the runner in different areas of running then in more hilly or scenic routes. Each marathon holds it own characterics. However I think I have had my fill of Regina and may only return once more, its time to move on. I have 8 marathons under my belt and would like to venture to others.

Good marathon...room for improvement
The course with it's winding, slanted bike paths and tight turns had my knees and ankles screaming by the finish. The event seemed well organized, however, there did seem to be alot of confusion after the event with timing chips/numbers as there seemed to be a number of mistakes with individual finishing times. The crowds/volunteers were very good.

if you are not injured before, you will be after
This is a demoralizing course-lots of down and backs on narrow, off-camber bike paths. The majority of the race is run through bike path systems out in the boonies. Crowd support is minimal, if at all, although volunteers are very good. You will also find the hair-pin turns around pylons to be especially hard on the knees and ankles. My friend and I were ready to run a PB, but the slanted paths had us hurting pretty bad by mile 16. We weren't injured before, but we sure were after. Generally, the design of this was not sensitive to the needs of the runners.

Well planned and executed weekend.
I had a great time - from the pasta dinner in the curling rink, to the Friendship Run Saturday morning, both providing opportunities to meet lots of area and regional runners (I came from San Antonio, Texas), to the Sunday morning race. Despite chilly, wet weather, the volunteers and spectators did a super job of providing encouragement. One minor concern - 10 days after the event, I'm still trying to access the age-group results w/o success.

Unbelievable, especially for such a new race
This was my second time running QCM (I did the half last year, the full this year) and it just keeps getting better. Volunteers were well-trained and so cheerful and supportive - even on a cold, rainy day! Medical volunteers on bikes were plentiful in the last 6 miles, which added a whole other level of security that I really appreciated (even though I personally didn't need their services). Wonderful finish line amenities: plenty of massage therapists, plenty of food (even for us poky people) and more wonderful, enthusiastic volunteers. (It didn't hurt my mood that I smashed my PR by 32 minutes :) ) I'll be doing this one every year for as long as I can. Fantastic.

Beautiful course keeps you motivated all the way
I ran the 1/2 in 2002. Beautiful scenery throughout the course makes this a wonderful run. Smaller marathon means you feel like you're out for a leisurely Sunday run, and before you know it, you're crossing the line. And I'm sure as Regina continues to have a marathon event, more and more folks will come out to cheer on the runners.

This event just gets better every year.
I have run this race both years that it has been in existence. It was my first marathon ever last year and I couldn't wait to run again. This year was my third marathon and I ran with my mother who was running her first. Now we both can't wait to run again. Thanks Regina for standing out in the cold and rain to support all runners along the course. Your smiles always kept us going. Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who made this possible. See you all next year.

A Huge 'Thank You' to the sponsors and volunteers!
This was not only my first marathon as a runner, it was also my first marathon as a member of the organizing committee. So while I may be somewhat biased in my rating of the course and organization (although other runner comments certainly support my comments), as both a runner and an organizer, I cannot say enough good things about the dozens of sponsors and hundreds of volunteers who made the first annual Queen City Marathon a tremendous success. The enthusiasm of everyone involved in this event was infectious. After the race, I spent some time talking to other runners, many of them from across Canada and some from the U.S., and all were extremely impressed with the positive volunteer support and the scenic, well-marked course. In fact, I spoke with an experienced champion marathoner who told me that he's run major marathons all across Canada and the US and has never seen such a well-marked course. On a personal note, a special thank you goes out to an old high-school buddy, Dave, who dragged his guitar and amplifier around the course, serenading we runners with Ramone's tunes...and to that one lady and her dog who I saw at least 4 times on the course. Everywhere I looked, there she was, cheering long and loud for each runner that went by. She even managed to make it back to the finish line to give me a high-five as I rounded the final corner. Of course, the pace I run, she had lots of time to get from one place to another! So, as a runner and part of the organizing committee, a huge thank you to the sponsors, the volunteers, and all the runners who came from across Canada and the US for making my first marathon an incredible, memorable experience.

Great course, great organization, great race
Well it's the evening of the next day and the muscles are still pretty tender. I rated the marathon high on all counts, but as it was my first, I don't have much to compare with.
There is no doubt, though, that the organization was excellent. Everything seemed to be thought of and the course was well marked and patrolled. The fuel-up pasta dinner on Friday was excellent. The fans were great - there were people virtually everywhere along the route. (Although I saw one lady about five times, but I may have been delirious)(And I'm still not sure if the guitar player was really there). There were lots of volunteers manning lots of watering stations, and they were great.
I almost gave the course only 4 stars, because I thought that everything couldn't get a five, but I can't think of any way to improve it. And it was pretty scenic. Most of it was on a paved pathway through a park, and the parts that were on streets were in very scenic sections of the city. So it gets 5.
There were lots of washroom facilities and porta-potties at the start, then they got scarce for the first 8 K loop, and then we went back past the start. In the next 3 K we had access to two fully equipped park washroom buildings only a few feet off the route. After that point access to washrooms ceased to be an issue with me, so I didn't really notice what was available, but I think there were lots.
How did I feel? Well, the last 10 K was a struggle. The last 4 was a bigger struggle. And finally, the last 2 kilometres were on a scenic winding path along the south shore of Wascana Lake, east of the Center of the Arts. And as you plod along, you know that the finish line in Douglas Park is on the other side of the lake. And the lake is only slightly bigger than a pond. But suddenly it looks like Lake Erie, and the tobogganing hill in Douglas Park looks like the Rockies as viewed from Calgary. And the runners ahead of you just rounding the end of the lake look like ants as viewed from 30,000 feet. And the volunteers (did I mention the great volunteers - well, even if I did they're worth mentioning again) at the last watering stop look at you and lying, say 'Looking Good!'. And then they look again and ask 'Are you OK' and they wait for a positive answer.
And then you're there, and damned if that lake wasn't smaller than it looked.
The first ever Queen City Marathon and my first one as well. Great day, great volunteers (did I mention the volunteers?), great weather, great race. Starting to look forward to next year's already.

Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home!
My home town hosted it's inaugural Queen City Marathon on September 23, 2001. It was a fantastic event run on a very scenic (and twisting!) course, with awesome crowd support and NUMEROUS aid stations. The Carbo Loading Party was well-organized with plenty of delicious pasta for everyone, as opposed to a 'one plate per person' deal. The course marshalls were well prepared and the Regina City Police Service did a fantastic job controlling traffic for the runners.
I'll definitely do this one again!
