Awesome course, a lot of fun
I did the half marathon and it was a lot of fun. 10 of the 13 miles are along the ocean, mostly at the top of the cliffs. The views are great, and it's mostly downhill - and a very fast course. It has a great finish line in the square too. The fans aren't loud, but the views make up for it.

Highly recommended
I wanted to run a spring marathon in Italy. Rome was a bit too early, Turin was moved to October, I didn't want to run in Milan and - lo and behold - here comes Trieste.
The majority of the course was really scenic, save for some parts in Monfalcone (petrol station, supermarket, etc.). The part along the coast was particularly beautiful. However, it's definitely neither flat nor particularly fast.
The food stands offered a variety of pastries, oranges, lemons, bananas and drinks and they were well staffed. I also liked cheering crowds in the towns and villages. All those shouts of "Dai," "Bravi," and "Forza!" were very cordial and supportive.
What I do not understand is a lack of toilets along the course, and why they only had 4 toilets around the start area. This is something to work on because standing in a cue is not particularly relaxing before a marathon. It's not really a warm-up either.
Otherwise than that, I recommend this run to those who are tired of big crowds and are not seeking a course that guarantees a personal record. Although I did obtain that in Trieste. :)

I really enjoyed this marathon!
Really enjoyed it! First they take you on a bus from Trieste uphill for 13 miles.... This means the first half-marathon is all downhill!! Can life get any better? The first half is really beautiful - along the coast and past a historic castle into town. What the second half lacks in scenery (you run through an industrial sector) is made up for by excellent food/water/sponge stops. Lots of entertainment - brass bands/samba bands/metal even the Blues Brothers!! Such a well organized event - and the Italians are the best hosts in the world. Enjoy! Oh - nearly forgot - the medal is rubbish... made out of cheap plastic. I was ready to throw it back at them!! :) Ah well!

Good/Small/Inexpensive
Excellent marathon with tremendous potential. I've ran four marathon overseas (Paris, Frankfurt, Berlin, Trieste). As you can see, this was the smallest. The folks from Italy know how to throw a marathon. Please understand this is a small marathon so don't expect the big spectators and an expensive medal. Bathrooms and water were a problem at the start and finish so do your business before you run. Water/food along the route was outstanding. Weather was a little hot but not a real problem.

First 20 KM, super; rest, poor
The course from KM 21 till 38 was poor, but the first 20 KM were some of the best I've ever seen in a race.

Beautiful
This was my first marathon and it was very enjoyable. Course was easy and flat. Could improve on the finish line, since most of us couldn't see the finish after 2 corners (so one could savor the last straight-away finishing). Kudos on live bands and drink stands (good snacks).
Little bit disappointed with spectator support at some sectors. But my highlight was meeting a bunch of runners from Eastern Eurpean countries; Hungary, Croatia, and Poland... no more Iron Curtain days and we're running together.
