Tahiti Moorea Marathon - Race Reviews

Pretty much everything is perfect except the humidity, (despite the 4:30am start) but hey, it is Polynesia. The marathon has a very small number of runners (less than 100) and almost all are locals; there are many, many more in the half marathon and shorter races. The entertainment with the pasta party the night before was amazing, the entertainment and food after the race was unique - traditional Polynesian food (interesting that the post-race ceremonies are some hours later, allows everyone to go to have a shower, get changed, relax a bit, and then return), the atmosphere was great; the water/refreshment stations were wonderful (people in local dress, dancers etc.), and the course is all along the water's edge, almost completely flat (thankfully!). Very few spectators, but that was fine. If it wasn't so, so far away would love to do it again! I take my hat off to the organizers and the local community for everything they do for this event - puts many larger, richer places to shame!

This was the best experience of my running life!! My husband, 14-year-old daughter, and I all ran the 1/2 marathon. We will never forget this trip. Be prepared for the heat; it was 32 degrees C without the humidity factor. Christopher Pierre did an exceptional job of organizing our 10-day, three-island trip - not one problem even with all those transfers. Thanks so much.

I ran the Tahiti Marathon in 2001. This was a great experience even than the organization wasn't good. I would like more water stations and more food along the course. Don't forget to take a camara because you will see many great views. This year the weather was good but we were lucky! So be prepared for the heat.
