 "Great Race and Great Fans" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I ran this marathon in 2002 (my 3rd) What a great day to run, a little foggy but kept the temp down. Great organization and logistics. The course starts out little hilly but after mile 7 it is mostly down hill, as a result my legs were pretty shot by mile 20. All in all a fairly fast course. The best part of the course is the first 17 miles and then through some industrial areas, but still great fans. Wonderful music long the course. The whole race seemed to fly by, I was very entertained. The ending was a little crowded and there was no changing tents but otherwise and excellent experience. | |

"A great race in a great city." (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 This is one of those Marathons that you simply expect to be great. It consistently gets good reviews from the press and from the participants. This year was the second year I've run this Marathon and I would say it has just gotten better. Fan and volunteer support was better this year (not that last year was bad). The only bad parts are the long stretches of roadway without shade in the mid and later stages of the race. It would also be nice to have a little more room at the start. It was a little crowded this year with the runners and family and fans. | |

"Excellent First Marathon" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was my first marathon and I'll definitely run it again. The course was challenging without being overwhelming. The waterstations were absolutely fabulous, but the people made it wonderful. Crowds, music, costumes, everwhere. I don't think I ran more than a half mile without running into some fans cheering the runners on. It felt like they were cheering for me. Maybe they were. All in all an excellent race. | |

 "Highly recommended - fanstastic marathon!" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Marathon #8 for me, and a new overall favorite. Perfect weather - cool (not cold) and misty at the start, which burned away to sunny and still cool (low 60's, I think.) The course was terrific - the hills were early enough not to matter much, the scenery stayed interesting, and the gentle downhills kept the pace moving. Enthusiastic spectators almost the entire way along the route, and more/better music than at Rock 'n' Roll!! Well-serviced water stops almost every mile, M&M's at just the right time near the end. Only problem - only 2 gel stops (10 & 17); I carried some, so didn't notice. Great expo, too, and gorgeous medal (plus a classy t-shirt, beautiful high-quality race poster, and runner's water belt!) I recommend this baby for first-timers as well as veterans - it's brilliantly planned and executed, and the whole town seemed to be out there volunteering and/or cheering. | |

 "Average marthon with tremendous potential" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 2 Was not real impressed with this Marathon. The lack of bathrooms was a major downfall. I saw more runners taking care of business along the course than my past three marathons--all in different cities. The lack of spectator participation was another major shortfall. I appreciate the ones that volunteered, but the course was empty. | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 5 Two full days after the race was over, the race website still did not have the net (chip) times posted on the website. In comparison, the Pittsburgh Marathon, which occured on the same day, had both gun times and chip times posted immediately and accurately. | |

"One of the best" (General Comments)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This is #14 for me, and #3 for my wife. We could not have had a better time. Cincinnati pulls out all the stops for this race. Plentiful water stops, an excellent expo, and a race route that takes in all of the city. I could recommend this race for anyone. Challenging enough for a veteran (the hill in the first third of the race is moderately difficult), but well attended enough to make a newcomer feel motivated. No complaints whatsoever. | |

"Organizers are enthusiastic and confident" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 A stress-free experience- enjoyable every minute. It's easy to get to from the east coast. We didn't need a car as you can walk to everything in Cincinnati: expo, meals, race start and finish- beautifully self-contained. My wife was able to see me (and I her) at the start, at mile 4, 17, and the finish, and only walked about 8 blocks to do so. She could return on foot to the hotel in the meantime- very cool. The course is only a little hilly from miles 4-7, and again near the end. The final hill up over the bridge crossing the Ohio river was fierce, but beautiful, and then you get to fly down into the finishers' chute lined with thousands of screaming people. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. This would be a great race to bring the family to, as there's lots to do and the place is so friendly. The people there are really into it. | |

 "Nice course, above average organization, crowds?" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 2 For a mid sized race, I thought the organization was top notch. These folks have run 4 wonderful marathons, I was glad to make this my first OHIO marathon. I don't know Cincy well enough to suggest course improvemenets, I liked the hills, though they were NOT killers (which you could have), the park was nice, the bridges nice, the finish was a bit congested and couldn't see the 26 mile marker, but nice finish bin and good refreshments. OUTSTANDING medal, below average shirt (cotton??), good poster and nice race expo. Crowds...what crowds? Thankfully that is not important for me, and the folks who were out were enthusiastic. Good group from Fleet Feet at mile 22, which was most appreciated. Definitely a marathon with lots of first time runners, but it is also challenging and enoyable for a veteran runner. Outstanding water and bathroom support on course...need more portajohns at start and more organization lining runners up at start. Good race that comes highly recommended to all. | |

"I Love This Marathon; I'll Be Back!" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I've done this race for the last two years and I love it. The pre-race expo was great and well organized. Great give-aways. Race day was great. Spectators were out in great numbers. Water stations were more than enough. Post-race food was good too. Can't say enough. I'll definitely go back. |
