   Mayerthorpe marathon honours fallen Mounties (Mayerthorpe Freelancer)
It was a special way to mark 10 years since the darkest day in RCMP history, when constables Anthony Gordon, Lionide Johnston, Brock Myrol and Peter Schiemann were gunned down on March 3, 2005, by James Roszko at his farm outside of Mayerthorpe. Roszko afterwards turned his gun on himself.

Shawn Grantham used the Fallen 4 Marathon and relay as a backdrop to propose to his girlfriend Leeanna Nagel. It would be the competitive couples first marathon and after 4 hours and 20 minutes together, Grantham dropped to one knee and proposed.

Thomas McGrath cried as he crossed the line at the first Fallen 4 Marathon with a time of 2 hours 50 minutes and 58 seconds. McGrath stated that his achilles tendon nagged him while enduring some of the larger climbs on the course
