Seafair Marathon Won't Reimburse Runners Who Missed The Bus (The Seattle Times)
Organizers of the Seafair Marathon said that they won't reimburse entry fees for runners who didn't make it onto a shuttle bus to the start of the marathon. They said they will donate half of those fees to charity and have promised to cover the entry fees for runners who missed the shuttle and want to race in either next month's Torchlight Run or next year's Seafair Marathon. Nearly four hundred did not make it to the start. Runners paid between $65 and $100 to participate.

Hundreds of Seattle Marathon runners miss bus to starting line (Seattlepi.com)
Almost four hundred runners missed shuttle buses to the starting line and didn't start the race. Upon realizing there was a problem, race organizers delayed the start by only fifteen minutes due to the course route over a major bridge. Possible causes for the incident could be that family and friends were allowed to board the early buses and that more people than expected arrived for later buses and the final 6:45 a.m. shuttle. Although some of the stranded the option of running a 13.1-mile half marathon and transported some of them to that start, it's not clear what will be done for the runners who missed the last bus.

It took Sam Thompson three hours and 45 minutes to cross the finish line at Sunday's Seafair Marathon in Bellevue — more than an hour longer than the men's leader. Thompson is the 25-year-old man behind the 50 in 50 in 50 Run For Hope, his personal quest to run 50 marathons in all 50 states in 50 days to raise awareness — and money, he hopes — for the still-struggling Mississippi Gulf Coast, battered last summer by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
