(Reuters Africa) Defending champion Leonard Mucheru of Kenya won the Tiberias Marathon in northern Israel in a 2:10:30 beating the previous course record by two minutes. He competed last year as a Bahraini national with the adopted name Mushir Salem Jawher and was stripped of his adopted nationality days by the government of Bahrain after discovering he had competed in Israel. Mucheru regained Kenyan nationality in October. | ||

Israelis Bimro, Avramski win Tiberias Marathon
(The Jerusalem Post) The wet and wintry weather of Tiberias lifted entirely yesterday, revealing ideal conditions for Assaf Bimro to become the third Israeli in 23 years to win the marathon. Bimro, running despite several stress fractures, completed the 42.195 kilometer in two hours, 19 minutes and 45 seconds with Nili Avramski winning the women's race in 2:42.06. Her time was the fastest ever by an Israeli woman athlete on home soil and placed her 17th overall. |
