The 2023 New York City Marathon features the return of the 2022 Champion, Sharon Lokedi, who will hope to defend her title against the 2021 champion Peres Chepchirchir and one of the fastest and most accomplished marathoners of all time, Brigid Kosgei. These three will be the women to watch.

Brigid Kosgei has been champion at the London Marathon, London Marathon and Tokyo Marathons and was the silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics. In winning the 2019 Chicago Marathon, Kosgei set a new world record of 2:14:04 which record held until it wss broken at the 2023 Berlin Marathon just months before the current New York City Marathon. Although the New York City Marathon course is not one on which to set a new record, Kosgei will be hoping to add to her list of wins at the World Marathon Majors races.

Peres Jepchirchir has been a force in marathoning since running the fastest debut marathon of all-time with a 2:17:16 win at the 2020 Valencia Marathon. She followed that win with a gold medal at the 2021 Olympics (ahead of Kosgei), was the winner of the 2021 New York City Marathon and the 2022 Boston Marathon and finished third at the 2023 London Marathon.

Rounding out the favorites will be Sharon Lokedi as the defending champion and Hellen Obiri, the winner of the 2023 Boston Marathon.

Kellyn Taylor and Molly Huddle will lead the charge for the Americans and either could podium in the race.
