Local Charities Receive $24,000 Contribution from
2003 Cellcom Green Bay Marathon
Green Bay, Wis., July 10, 2003 - N.E.W. Curative Rehabilitation and the
Volunteer Center of Brown County will each receive $12,000 from the 2003
Cellcom Green Bay Marathon. This amount surpassed the 2002 charity
contributions by over $4,000.
With this $24,000 contribution, the marathon has generated more than
$80,000 in proceeds for local charities.
"We are ecstatic with this amount because it is not customary for a
marathon of our size to make this type of monetary contribution back into
our community," said Marathon Board of Directors President Jeff Mirkes.
"This contribution was made possible by pledges collected by runners and
from event proceeds. Charities, volunteers, sponsors, the staff, athletes
and spectators alike all contribute to the success of this event."
"The dollars from the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon will help the Volunteer
Center of Brown County recruit and mobilize more volunteers to get involved
in the community to make a difference," claims Christine Danielson,
Executive Director of the Volunteer Center of Brown County. "We help
people become involved in their community through volunteerism and we
really feel volunteers make the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon a special
event."
John Bloor, President of N.E.W. Curative Rehabilitation, Inc. states "The
money we receive from the marathon will be used to help individuals who are
in need of services and do not have adequate resources to pay. We greatly
appreciate the donation and thank everyone involved in the Cellcom Green
Bay Marathon."
