Bib One is Number One in Hometown
Favorable weather helped hometown favorite Carol Legate live up to all of
Green Bay's expectations-she became a winner. Completing the 4th annual
Cellcom Green Bay Marathon in 2:45:02 Carol Legate easily beat second place
finisher Maddy Tormoen (2:50:11) and Barbara McManus in 3rd place finished
1 ½ minutes later. Legate bolted to a two-minute lead at mile 9, by the
halfway point she was three minutes in front of her closest competitor.
She never looked back.
On the flip side, until just past mile 14, the men's winner Charles Kamindo
was one of nine in the lead pack. Kamindo ran neck and neck with the other
Kenyans, Russian Gennady Temnikov, and Chicagoan Chris Wehrman. Once
Kamindo made his move he ran all by himself finishing in 2:19:05, 91
seconds ahead of Chris Wehrman. At 2:21:51, Gennady Temnikov crossed the
finish line third. Both Wehrman and Temnikov were in positions to overtake
the leader, but could not produce. It was Kamindo's race; his second win
in less than a month.
The Cellcom Green Bay Marathons half marathon winners did it fine fashion.
Tim Willcox, of Middleton, finished in 1:09:42, almost three minutes in
front of the second place finisher. For the women, Lea Baer, another
hometown runner, crossed the finish line in 1:21:57, also three minutes in
front of the next closest runner. For a list of complete results check our
