     Marathon Registration Opens and the Capital Pacers Is Instituted

Washington D.C. - Organizers of the Washington DC Marathon announced today
that registration for the 2003 road race is officially open.  The date for
next year's marathon is March 23 and the course is the same route followed
in the recent March 24, 2002 race.

The route of the marathon traverses all four quadrants of Washington, D.C. 
"The course offers not only the postcard perfect scenes of the National 
Mall and the Capitol dome but also a first-hand look at some of the 
distinct neighborhoods of the city that runners really enjoyed," states 
Angela Casey, spokesperson for the Washington DC Marathon.  

Registration will follow the same procedures as in the 2002 marathon.
However, for the 2003 marathon, a discount structure has been 
established.  Those registering between April 4 and May 31 receive a $15 
dollar discount off of the $85 dollar admission charge.  Participants 
registering between June 1 and September 30 receive a $10 discount, and 
those who register between October 1 and December 31 receive a $5 dollar 
discount. Additional discounts are offered throughout the year for 
participants who register online, are members of local running clubs or are
60-year or older on race day.   

Participants who ran in the Inaugural Washington DC Marathon and register 
for the 2003 Washington DC Marathon qualify as members of the newly 
established 'Washington DC Marathon Capital Pacers'.  Runners in this 
exclusive club will run the marathon each consecutive year having started 
from Year One.  "The Washington DC Marathon is extremely pleased to 
announcethe formation of this club." states Angela Casey. "It is comprised
of individuals who will take on the challenge of running the Washington DC
Marathon every year. These runners will not only witness the evolution of 
the marathon but the constantly evolving city of Washington, D.C. and will
be forever part of this shared history."  Incremental discounts will be 
annually given to runners who are members of the Washington DC Marathon 
Capital Pacers.
