             Record-breaking Numbers at The 44th Running of The 
                        TCS New York City Marathon

                 50,564 Runners Made History on November 2 
            As The World's Largest Number of Marathon Finishers, 
          Surpassing 50,000 Finishers for The Second Year in a Row

New York, November 3, 2014-More than 50,000 runners finished the 2014 TCS 
New York City Marathon for the second year in a row on Sunday, November 
2-the biggest field ever at the event and the largest marathon in history, 
it was announced today by New York Road Runners President and CEO Mary 
Wittenberg.

Highlights

The Field
- 50,869 starters

- 50,564 finishers, as of Monday, November 3 (298 more finishers 
than in 2013)

- 30,144 male finishers

- 20,420 female finishers

- 130 countries represented

- 50 states and the District of Columbia represented

- One-millionth finisher to cross the line in race history: Katherine 
Slingluff (Brooklyn, NY), 40, 4:43:36

Winners

- Female open race winner: Mary Keitany (Kenya), 2:25:07

-- Last year's champion Priscah Jeptoo (Kenya) ran the same time

-- The top four women are all mothers

- Male open race winner: Wilson Kipsang (Kenya), 2:10:59

- Female wheelchair race winner: Tatyana McFadden (Clarksville, MD), 1:42:16*

-- Second consecutive win

- Male wheelchair race winner: Kurt Fearnley (Australia), 1:30:55*

-- First New York City Marathon win (fifth total) since four consecutive 
victories from 2006-2009 (course record in 2006)

- First American female finisher: Desiree Linden (Washington Township, 
MI), fifth, 2:28:11

- First American male finisher: Meb Keflezighi (San Diego, CA), fourth, 
2:13:18

* Due to high winds, the race distance of the Professional Wheelchair 
Division was adjusted to 23.2 miles after the start line was moved to the 
Brooklyn side of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.

Celebrities

- Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark), top-ranked tennis star and running 
as an Ambassador for NYRR's charity running team, Team For Kids, to support 
NYRR's free youth running programs, 3:26:33 (She has raised more than 
$83,000 as of November 3 for NYRR's Team for Kids:

- Teri Hatcher, Golden Globe Award winning actress and Desperate 
Housewives star, running for J/P HRO, 5:06:42

- Tiki (Atiim) Barber, all-time rushing leader of the New York 
Giants and co-host of CBS Sports Radio's morning show, running for the 
PitCCh In Foundation, 5:14:37

The NBA Relay
- The NBA Relay, a 24-leg relay team led off by NBA Commissioner 
Adam Silver and anchored by NBA Global Ambassador and New York Knicks and 
New Jersey Nets legend Dikembe Mutombo, ran the TCS New York City Marathon 
course with a relay comprised of students from NYRR's free, year-round 
youth running programs
