Press Release - New York City Marathon - 3/14/14

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2014 TCS New York City Marathon Runner Application Closes Tuesday, March 18

Applications Are Still Being Accepted via
The TCS New York City Marathon Website, tcsnycmarathon.org

New York, March 14, 2014 - The runner application for the 2014 TCS New York
City Marathon will close on Tuesday, March 18, at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Those who
still wish to apply should visit the recently launched TCS New York City
Marathon website, tcsnycmarathon.org. Applications will be randomly
selected through a drawing process on Wednesday, March 26.

The TCS New York City Marathon brings together runners from around the
world. The non-guaranteed entry process helps preserve the unparalleled
diversity of the race and will include three simultaneous drawings covering
"NYC metro area" applicants (i.e., residents in and within 60 miles of New
York City), "National" applicants (i.e., United States residents outside of
the tri-state area) and "International" applicants (i.e., non–United States
residents, including Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories).

A record-setting 50,266 runners crossed the finish line at the 2013 New
York City Marathon, making it the biggest field ever at the event and the
largest marathon in history. More than 100 countries were represented, and
runners from each of the 50 states participated in the race. The top male
and female winners were both from Kenya-Geoffrey Mutai, who became a
two-time reigning champion, and Priscah Jeptoo, who took the lead in the
race's final miles to take the first-place prize.

About the TCS New York City Marathon

The TCS New York City Marathon is the most popular and inclusive marathon
in the world, attracting the world's top professional athletes and a vast
range of recreational runners. The race began in 1970 with just 127
entrants racing four laps of Central Park. Today, more than 50,000 entrants
from around the world run through New York City's five boroughs, starting
on Staten Island at the foot of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and finishing
in Central Park. Participants include Olympians, top age-group competitors,
and many thousands who run for charity and to achieve their own personal
goals. Millions of fans cheer the runners from the streets and watch the
global television broadcast. The race is part of the World Marathon Majors,
an alliance of the world's six biggest marathons that determines each
year's top male and top female marathoner. The TCS New York City Marathon
is the premier event of New York Road Runners, the world's foremost
community running organization, whose mission is to help and inspire people
through running.
