Press Release - Mississauga Marathon - 11/28/13

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mississauga Marathon Partners with The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Mississauga, ON - November 28, 2013 - The Mississauga Marathon is proud to
announce its new partnership with The Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award selected to partner with the Mississauga
Marathon due to their similar mission and view on physical activity and
healthy living and also due to the continued growth and success of The
Mississauga Marathon. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is an exciting
self-development program available to all young people ages 14-24,
equipping them with life skills to make a difference to themselves, their
communities and the world. To date: over 500,000 young people from Canada
and over 8 million youth in 140 countries have been motivated to undertake
a variety of voluntary and challenging activities. The Award has
participants set personal goals to achieve in a variety of components
including fitness. Reaching those goals is like running a Marathon. It is
through dedication and steady commitment that both The Award and a Marathon
like Mississauga are accomplished.

"The Duke of Edinburgh's Award - Ontario Division is excited to partner
with the Mississauga Marathon," says The Award, Peel Region Representative,
Gurpreet Singh Dipak. "Since The Award includes a Physical Recreation
section requirement which has the purpose of having its participants 'get
active' by learning 'to live a healthy lifestyle and improve [one's]
overall fitness', pursuing completion of any event in the Mississauga
Marathon whether it's the MaraFun Program or the full Marathon is an
excellent way to achieve both, The Award and reach a really significant
fitness milestone in one's life. The Mississauga Marathon offers a great
opportunity to achieve both personal fitness success and the recognition
that The Duke of Edinburgh's Award confers."

In 2012 over 12,000 young adults joined The Award for the first time, 4,580
completed their Award at various levels and over 40,000 young adults
actively participated in the Award. The Mississauga Marathon expects that
this success can grow the Mississauga MaraFun Program and the 10K Student
Relay. "The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a great program for young adults
and aligns perfectly with our youth activities; our MaraFun Program and 10K
Student Relay event" says Mississauga Marathon Race Director, Krystal Duz.
"We are thrilled to work with The Award to help raise awareness for them
and to further grow our event while working towards achieving our goal of
encouraging children and young adults to be excited about fitness and
incorporating it into their daily lives."

The MaraFun program is a great opportunity for students to see the benefits
of physical activity. Throughout this program students complete 40K of
physical activity for six weeks before the Mississauga Marathon, finishing
off the final 2K on race day to total a Full Marathon distance. The school
with the most amount of participants becomes "The School That Goes The
Distance" and win the MaraFun Cup for their school.

The 11th Annual Mississauga Marathon takes place on Saturday, May 3rd and
Sunday, May 4th, 2014 and continues to offer "A Run for Everyone". Events
include the Marathon, Petrillo Law Relay Challenge, Recharge with Milk Half
Marathon, Valeant Pharmaceuticals 10K, 10K Student Relay, "The Hazel" 5K
and SUBWAY® Restaurants 2K Fun Run/Walk. A Runner's Expo is also part of
the Race Weekend, a mandatory stop for all participants to pick up their
race kits that will take place on Friday, May 2nd and Saturday, May 3rd, at
the Port Credit Memorial Arena, in downtown Port Credit.

Prices increase on Wednesday, January 29th, 2014. Registration is available
online at: http://www.mississaugamarathon.com.
