FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Mississauga Marathon presented by Canon launches
Healthy Living Program for Students Under 18
Landmark Sport Group, the creators of the Mississauga Marathon are proud
to announce The Healthy Living Program for Students under 18. With so
many stories in the news recently concerning the growing issue of childhood
obesity, the Mississauga Marathon would like to offer a special price for
all students under the age of 18 in an initiative to get kids excited about
fitness!
Students are invited to participate in "The Hazel" 5K, Desjardins General
Insurance 10K or The Mississauga News 2K this May 10th and 11th for just
$20 per entry! This is a 50% saving off the regular price! With their
registration, students will receive a Reebok cotton t-shirt, a race bib,
finishers medal and food and refreshments at the finish line. This special
price for students will run from now until April 2nd.
The Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board will be distributing the
registration forms to all the schools. Registrations must be submitted
through a teacher by April 2nd.
According to a report on health services in 2001 from the Canadian
Institute for Health Information, the rates of childhood obesity in Canada
have almost tripled in the last twenty years! Children that are overweight
are at a greater risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure,
heart disease, some types of cancer as well as low self esteem. The
Mississauga Marathon wants to help!
By participating in a Mississauga Marathon presented by Canon event,
children can build self esteem by setting and achieving their goal while at
the same time incorporating physical fitness into their regular routine.
