MaraFun Program encourages Fitness in Children
A Run for Everyone. This is the mandate and goal of the Mississauga
Marathon presented by Canon and with it's MaraFun program entering it's 3rd
year the opportunity to interest children in physical fitness and goal
setting is made easy!
March Break is fast approaching and for some parents it may be difficult to
Find activities for their children during that week that are healthy, fun
and inexpensive. The MaraFun Program, which is a part of the Mississauga
Marathon race weekend May 10th and 11th, is a great way to encourage
children to set personal goals and promote daily fitness.
The MaraFun program is designed to be completed over a six week period in
which children run or walk the first forty kilometres (40K) of the marathon
distance bit by bit each day under the supervision of a parent, teacher or
guardian. Completing these short distances each day as outlined in the
MaraFun Program encourages your child to incorporate physical activity into
their everyday routine.
Completion of the MaraFun program is achieved at the Mississauga Marathon's
2K Family Fun Run/Walk where your child will finish the last two kilometres
of the marathon distance to the cheers of spectators and among world class
runners at a world class event. After completing the race MaraFuner's
receive a 2K medal as well as a MaraFun certificate commemorating their
The school with the most MaraFun participants will win the MaraFun Cup to
be displayed at their school for the year as well as earning the title of
"The School That Went the Distance!" Children are also encouraged to enter
the MaraFun colouring contest to be eligible to win great prizes!
