Memorial Day Marathon Races to Raise Over $30,000 for Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

May 24, 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Memorial Day Marathon Races to Raise Over $30,000
for Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

In the third year since its inception the Memorial Day Marathon Races held
in Lenox, MA has already raised over $30,000 in 2012 and that number
continues to climb. In its first year the race only raised $1,800 for the
Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund but in just two short years the number has grown
exponentially. Aided by a partnership with Crowdrise, a social
networking/online fundraising site the MDM Races were able to better reach
out to runners with a common interest in raising money for the IFHF.
Crowdrise is also used by the New York City Marathon as its fundraising
portal.

The online efforts were once again led by race organizers and US Army
Captain Samuel Russo. "I had the pleasure of meeting Sam last year when he
ran the race and he told me he wanted to get more involved and assist with
the fundraising side of the event. I was thrilled!" said event organizer
Matt Linick. Sam, originally from Pittsfield MA and a graduate of West
Point, organized a group of his friends and army colleagues and went to work
soliciting support.

Another avenue came by way of Honduras. On May 24, 2012 a group of 67 US
Armed Forces members will be taking place in a Memorial Day Marathon
Satellite Race held at Soto Cano Airbase in Honduras. Satellite runners
have been registering online and have also participated in the fundraising
with over $3000 in contributions.

The 3rd Annual Memorial Day Marathon Races will take place on May 26-27,
2012, starting and finishing at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA. The races will
feature the Memorial Day Marathon & Half Marathon, The Berkshires 10K/5K,
The MDM 15K Trail Race and The Berkshire Bank Kids Run. A portion of the
proceeds will benefit The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Additional
information can be found at www.memorialdaymarathon.com.
